What is Adobe Spark?

Adobe Spark is a web service that allows you AND your students to "tell stories and share ideas quickly" (Adobe Spark, 2018). It is a resource for QUICKLY creating multimedia content and presentations that can help keep your students engaged by providing context about a topic in a captivating manner.

Multimedia presentations generally include at least one of the following elements: images, videos, sound, or animation. And, Spark allows you to create three types of multimedia content without needing advanced design or coding skills. The three components of Spark are:

Spark Page

"Use Page to create a story using text, images, and video. When you're done we'll present your story as a responsive web page that can be viewed in any web browser" (Adobe Spark, 2018, para. 1).

Spark Post

"Use Post to create images optimized for social media; you provide images and text and we'll help with the design. We'll even help you create the right shape and size image for each social media platform" (Adobe Spark, 2018, para. 1).

Spark Video

"Use Video to create, well, a video. Add videos from your computer or iOS camera roll, overlay text, add your voice and background music, and we’ll help turn your story into an amazing video to share with the world" (Adobe Spark, 2018, para. 1).

All three of these applications post to pages so that you can easily share what you create! You can create individual Pages, Posts, and Videos, or you can use the formats together (including a Post image in a Video, or a Video in a Page, you get the idea).

We have Adobe Spark for Education!

  • Adobe Spark for Education is what we have deployed at the college. It's the same as Adobe Spark except there is enhanced data privacy, easier login, enhanced control to keep students safe, and premium features for free.
  • And, because of how easy Spark is to use, you don't have to be a coder to create beautiful projects.
  • Adobe Spark is available to PGCC employees AND students, so you can help your students get creative with Spark as well!

Accessing & Terminating Accounts

Our Enterprise Technology team has set up your accounts to use Adobe Spark!

You can log in at the Adobe Spark website (https://spark.adobe.com) using the Enterprise login option with your college email address and password (same password you use with Owl Link) or via the Adobe Spark desktop app if you are on campus.

As information security is of the utmost importance to the college, we prefer that you use the college-issued version of Adobe Spark with content that you are creating for your PGCC courses.

That said, it is important to note that upon termination of employee or student status, you will lose access to this account just as you would Blackboard and other applications provided by the college.

However, you may also want to create a separate Adobe Spark account with your personal email address and password that you can keep forever. For example, I have my work account as well as my personal account.

Sharing of "Sparks" between multiple accounts is not currently possible (maybe Adobe will add that one day), but you can download Adobe Sparks if there are items that you'd like to save for your portfolio.

Lastly, Enterprise Technology will not be able to retrieve content if you accidentally delete it, so be careful as you create and edit content.

Knowledge Check

1. What are the three types of content that you can create in Adobe Spark?

2. What happens to your content when you are no longer an employee or student at the college?

3. True or False: I cannot create and use a personal Adobe Spark account.

4. True or False: Enterprise Technology will retrieve my content if I accidentally delete it.

Let's Recap

You've been introduced to Adobe Spark! It's a pretty cool and easy-to-use application with three embedded applications...Spark Post, Page, and Video.

You've also learned that Adobe Spark for Education is available with your college email and password and you can create a personal Adobe Spark account.

You also understand that upon termination as an employee or student, you no longer have access to your Adobe Spark for Education account provided by the college.
