Below the Surface- Identity Workshop

Live session presented by Stephanie Robertson, Director of Community Engagement and Inclusion. Do you want to delve deeper into who you are and how your various identities affect how you interact with colleagues, friends and family? This session will allow us to explore personal and social identities and help us learn more about each other through an interactive exercise. This is designed to be a judgement free zone in which you can share as much (or as little) as you are comfortable with!

Stephanie Robertson is the Director of Community Engagement and Inclusion with Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. She received her BA in German Language and Literature and Comparative Area Studies from Duke and her JD from Georgetown University Law Center. The highlight of her time at Georgetown Law was working with the Street Law Clinic, which provided law-focused education to high school students in Washington, D.C., and her Education Law and Policy classes. After graduating from law school, Stephanie worked at Thacher Proffitt and Wood LLP in New York City in their structured finance department, but soon realized that her passion lay in education. In 2009, she began a career in higher ed and has worked predominantly in admissions and graduate recruitment for business and law school. She has had the opportunity to work for amazing institutions including her alma mater, Georgetown Law, and Duke’s rival down the street, UNC Chapel Hill. During this time, Stephanie developed programs and created pathways to enable diverse populations to apply for, and enroll in, graduate school. Additionally, she has run key pipeline programs designed to expose underrepresented populations to the business and legal fields.

In her current role, Stephanie works closely with business school students, staff and faculty to develop programming that cultivates an inclusive and welcoming community at Fuqua. Her work is dedicated to creating an environment where students across dimensions of identity are provided opportunities to share their authentic selves as well as safeguarding spaces for difficult conversations. Stephanie also collaborates with internal and external thought leaders to develop strategies for Fuqua to become the premiere training grounds for inclusive business leaders.
