This fall, students in Bemidji State University's School of Technology, Art & Design have been developing design concepts for a tiny house that will be built by the school later this year.
Teams of design students presented their design concepts for the house at an Oct. 20, 2017, committee meeting. A design by the team of Angela Gareri, Kristin Knudson, Kylie Bamberger, Hannah Sernett and Kadie Amiot was chosen as the final construction model.
"It was really cool to get to work with the whole TAD School to creates something that is actually coming to life," the team said. "We can't wait to see the finished product."
The TAD School's tiny house project is a collaborative effort involving students in a broad variety of courses.
Design concepts for the house were produced by students in Sachel Josefson's Building Systems course, and the project is being coordinated by Dave Towley's Applied Project Management students.
BSU's Sustainability Office has consulted throughout the design process, as well.
Dr. Tim Brockman's Built Environment students will construct the tiny house on campus. Josefson and Mike Mulry, adjunct instructor in human performance, sport and health, served as clients for a group of students in Dr. Kelly La Venture's Marketing Research and Marketing Management classes.
Those students surveyed BSU alumni to gather feedback on amenities to include in the house, and are assembling a marketing plan to promote the house and its eventual sale.
The house will be auctioned in conjunction with The TAD School's Fourth Annual TAD Talks event on April 26, 2018.
