Greyhound Ambassadors:We're More than tour guides 2018

By Marysa Mazanek

One leadership organization at Loyola that heavily influences the recruitment of future students is the Greyhound Ambassadors in Undergraduate Admissions.

The innovative leadership opportunity started at the beginning of this year and transitioned into one of the most sought after positions on campus.

Greyhound Ambassadors serve as the "face" of the school to prospective students through tours and “The goal is to make the prospective student’s visit memorable.”

The Greyhound Ambassadors consist of both work-study students and volunteers. They conduct daily tours and run the Open Houses.

Why is this important?

So why do I bring all of this up? I am a Greyhound Ambassador myself and I love being a member of the best organization on campus.

I started working for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions my sophomore year. I was an Office Assistant, which consisted of giving tours and filing paperwork.

Last year, I studied abroad and did not have the chance to work. Upon returning to school in September, I was surprised to find that the job title changed.

What exactly did my boss mean when he said "Greyhound Ambassador?" A bigger leadership position? More of a time commitment? I really didn't know what to think.

With the creation of the new program, the Admissions Office was able to hire more students than years past. What was once about twenty students now amassed to more than sixty.

personal perspectives

Students from all class years participate in the leadership organization. First-year, Kaylee Walls, feels right at home as an Ambassador, and loves telling new students why she loves Loyola!

Kaylee shares one perk of her job as she says, "The best thing about being a Greyhound Ambassador is being able to meet and ask advice from upperclassmen."

Most students see the Ambassadors guiding tours through campus each day. Senior Jessica Fu enjoys seeing the promotion of Loyola through these personalized tours.

"Walking around campus, I regularly see Greyhound Ambassadors giving tours, talking about their own experiences, and giving great overviews of the school."

it's bigger than tours...

We are more than tour guides. We are more than students trying to make money or do something with our spare time. WE ARE A FAMILY!

I love each Greyhound Ambassador more than I could possibly express. Each person brings their cheerful dispositions and big smiles to the Humanities Building every day.

We love giving tours and telling families why to pick Loyola. It's especially nice when someone from your tour officially commits to the school.

I know that I will miss being a Greyhound Ambassador once I graduate. I learned many things about myself and met the best people through this organization.
