Oxford Emory wins record sixth consecutive title

The Oxford Emory (GA) Eagles won six of nine championship flights on Sunday in Peachtree City, GA to capture the 2021 NJCAA DIII Women's Tennis Championship, the program's sixth consecutive title and seventh overall.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Lily McCain who captured both No. 4 singles and teamed up with freshman Allie Lucky to claim No. 3 doubles. Emory Oxford saw some adversity as they finished runner-up in No. 1 and 2 singles and doubles, but they followed through down the stretch to take the most points and win the championship.

Final Standings

Suffolk County (NY) finishes closely in second place putting together 19 team points. Illinois Valley finished off an impressive showing with a third place finish.

Eagles' championship streak continues

Freshman Irene Wang took on the challenge of playing No. 1 singles captured the title for the Eagles. Wang, along with doubles partner freshman Emily Freestone, finished as the runner-up in No. 1 doubles in a close match.

Oxford Emory managed to win five of the six singles flights and one of the three doubles flights. Sophomore Lara Crosby earned the No. 3 singles flight title with a match win over Illinois Valley's Olivia Woods.

Freshman Lily McCain, sophomore Joanna Wu, and freshman Mayuri Charan each claimed the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles flight championships for the Eagles.

Suffolk County finishes in second place

Suffolk County tied their highest finish in school history with a second-place finish. The doubles duo of Lauren Schiraldi and Pamela Pillco managed to win the No. 1 doubles championship in a decisive match. Pillco earned the No. 2 singles championship and was the only non-Oxford Emory Eagle to win a singles flight. Schiraldi also finished as the runner-up in the No. 1 flight. The Sharks finished the tournament with 19 points.

Illinois Valley freshman Olivia Woods and Brianna Strehl (left) brought home the No. 2 doubles flight championship. This helped lead the Eagles to a third-place finish in Peachtree City with 17 points. The Eagles' third-place finish ties the highest in school history (1998, 2016).

Pernilla Hardin (left) was named the Coach of the Tournament for the third consecutive season, and the fourth time in the last five seasons.
