Monday, Nov. 22

Dear University community,

Join us tonight as the University community welcomes the most wonderful time of the year by lighting up our campus with holiday cheer. We’ll do so at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Killam Library, facing University Boulevard. Join us for a cup of cocoa and a cookie or two. We might even try to carol! This event is limited to members of the University community: students, faculty and staff.

  • Thanks to all who helped support our annual Giving Day last week. It was uplifting to see a sea of flags recognizing givers on the Student Center lawn. This student-centered campaign calls on alumni around the world and the community at large to support student financial aid, campus facilities upgrades, students traveling and presenting research with faculty, or areas of greatest need.
  • This month, our Performing Arts faculty and students are presenting some great live performance opportunities…free of charge. For fans of traditional mariachi music, a Mariachi International concert is Monday, Nov. 22. We’ll conclude our live schedule with our traditional “Guitarras De Navidad Concert” Nov. 30. Here’s more.
  • Trailblazers Legacy Night, including the TAMIU Ring Recipients, is Monday, Nov. 29. Students who ordered their TAMIU Ring by or before Oct. 22, 2021 are invited to attend and must RSVP at 956.326.2170.
  • Don’t forget, our favorite Late Night Breakfast is coming Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library for Fall ’21 enrolled students. This event is hosted by the Division of Student Success and I hope to see you there!
  • Your Final Exam schedule Link is below.
  • Fall Commencement Ceremonies are Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the Sames Auto Arena. College of Arts and Sciences ceremonies for all undergraduate and graduate students will be at 11 a.m. Ceremonies for all other TAMIU Colleges and Schools graduates will be at 4 p.m. that day. Find out more from the dedicated Commencement website.
  • Registration for the Spring Semester 2022 is underway. Don’t wait to plan your next semester now.
  • The National Guard will continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines on campus through Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The MODERNA and PFIZER vaccine boosters are now available to all adults and the CDC has authorized the mix and match of vaccines. At least six months must have elapsed between second dose and a booster dose. In addition, Pediatric PFIZER doses are available on campus for children between 5 and 11 years of age.
  • COVID-19 vaccines won’t be available Wednesday, November 24, 2021 as the vaccine site will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. All updated hours are here.
  • TAMIU’s random COVID-19 testing continues. If selected, you must test within 72 hours. Testing is for ALL members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff. That’s all of us…because all of us are in this together!
  • As we ready to gather and give thanks this Thursday, let us all pause to consider the many blessings bestowed upon us and do our very best to share these blessings with others.

I wish all Dustdevils and your families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁

- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President
