Sampling is when part of a sound or piece of music is taken and created into another piece of music mix. Hip Hop music is a style that uses sampling. But there are also many popular songs that have used a sampled piece of music or sound.

Billie Eilish is a great example of an artist who uses sampling. In her song Bad Guys she uses the sound of the traffic lights at a crossing. This sound has been digitally manipulated with effects changing it to create a delayed effect which you can hear in the chorus of the song 'bad guy'.

SAMPLING TASK

You are to record 3 different 'sounds' in Garage Band. Using the FX's buttons you are to alter the sounds into your own sound and create your own sample for each.

You are then to mix these three sounds with a drum track and bass track, creating your own music mix. Watch the two videos that takes you through how to put it together.
