Performance - Passage
In a vast white room, a 3 by 3 meters charcoal drawing is standing, waiting for the public to enter. A sharp sound is heard and a blade starts making its way through the paper. Vertical lines that follow the cuts go against the organic forms of the charcoal lines. But then, the fragile strips are being cut one after the other. The pieces of paper are falling to the ground and the little windows made by the paper’s absence, gives a sneak peek of what is taking place behind the paper. The performer is being revealed and once the last strip is fallen, the performer jumps trough the drawing to join the public.
This performance is a vertical version of the original horizontally made drawing. It remains me, me trying to discover until where I can reach for the paper sheet. But, by changing a few parameters such as the position of the paper and the tool, the drawing becomes an experience. With the sound of the cuts and the sight of paper gradually falling down to the ground, the drawing transforms itself to sculpture. A passage is materialized and a new beginning is at reach.
