Audubon Time Capsule Breakfast A celebration of Audubon's History

Current and former Audubon faculty and staff gathered to celebrate Audubon Elementary School's rich history as the district prepares for the school's closing.

The contents of the school's time capsule, buried in 1997, were a main feature of the morning's presentation for the students and guests. Principal Brucker took the students through the items buried within, including a copy of the school's newsletter, a lunch menu, a school handbook, letters from students and other items that reveal a snapshot of the school at the time!

The time capsule was buried in the school's environmental center.

Audubon Teacher Janet Ciliberto, who helped prepare the time capsule, tells the story...

Principal Brucker took the students through the items one at a time...

A penny to mark the year...

A snapshot of the school's staff...

A handbook...

A look back in time when the "taco tub" was king...

A student produced newsletter filled with celebrations of the season...

The capsule also contained beautiful letters written by students to "future" Audubon alumni.

We have six computers. I am an expert on the computer. The best part of the day is recess because we get to do anything we want to do.
I like to read, so it’s great to go to the library. Mrs. Gottheardt is from Wisconsin, so she is a big fan of the Green Bay Packers. If they win the Super Bowl we get no homework for a week!
In the year 2010, I wonder what sports you will play. Do you wear metal clothes? Do your desks float: Have you ever watched our video yearbook? I’m in the video. When you read this I hope I am a sports car designer.

The students oohed and aahed...and then gathered with the school's chorus to sing the school's alma mater...

Afterward, everyone enjoyed an extended recess, with Superintendent Dr. David Zerbe and School Board Vice President and Audubon parent Michael Ryan helping out.

The Methacton School District will host a farewell community event at Audubon Elementary School on Wednesday, June 21. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and feature brief remarks in the school's library followed by time to tour the building, take photos, and enjoy the company of friends of Audubon Elementary School.
