message from Mr. Thompson, Principal Boise High - phased reopening draft plan
Hello Boise High Parents, Guardians, Students and Faculty -
I hope this edition of The Brave Weekly finds you healthy and doing well. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in our Virtual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 3rd. The teachers and staff worked really hard putting together a special opportunity to connect and say hello. A special note of thanks to them for all of the learning, professionalism and positivity they have embraced while learning to deliver engaging and rigorous instruction in a new and different way. Now that we have advanced through the first few weeks of remote(virtual) learning, we will start to see an instructional and learning rhythm develop, as it does every school year. It is our hope to continue to find a healthy balance between screen time, instruction, guided and independent practice and time away from the computer.
We have heard from a number of parents and students who have expressed gratitude to the teachers and staff for their work thus far as well as some concerns regarding the amount of screen time students are experiencing. Please know that we are mindful of this concern and looking for ways to continue to engage students while finding opportunities to reduce screen time from 52 minutes of every class period. Should you have specific questions, please email the classroom teacher, and they will be happy to assist.
Included in this bulletin is the DRAFT plan for phased return to in-person learning. Please take a moment to review it, provide feedback, and let us know if you have questions or a need for clarification. It is our goal to return students to campus as soon as it is safe to do so, based on guidance from health professionals. In the event that students are in a remote(virtual) learning environment longer than anticipated, we will likely stay with the Google Classroom platform. Some teachers may utilize FuelEd as an additional resource. This is a little different than originally planned, but as we have learned the functionality of Google Classroom and experienced the instructional expertise of our teachers, it seems as though the existing platform is one that can be used effectively for in-person and virtual learning, should we need to make a shift.
It is our hope that students will be back on campus according to the DRAFT plan included in this correspondence. Thank you all again for your patience and support as we continue to “build this plane while we are flying it.” We are thankful to be learning with you. And thank you for making every day a great day to be The Brave.
Take Care - Mr. Thompson, Principal
