Permanent Foster Care Spotlight
Meet PFC "Rosie"
Rosie and her sister, Daisy, were turned over to BSR after their owners passed away. The family contacted BSR and a volunteer and a friend who owns a plane flew up to Pennsylvania to pick up Daisy and Rosie and take them back to Delaware to be fostered. While with the foster in Maryland, Daisy peacefully passed and crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Rosie, due to her age and some physical handicaps, entered Permanent Foster Care with BSR.
Rosie is now nearly 17 years of age and has been in PFC care since June of 2014 in South Carolina. She shares her home with 3 LBD siblings. Her current home referred to as ‘Boykin Club Med’ by some has a pool and large yard to run and play in.
After a break outside and watching her siblings play fetch, she sprints around the yard like a gazelle. Sometimes, her days consist of being outdoors in her large shaded yard (if not too hot); otherwise, you will find her sleeping on her bed gripping a tennis ball in her mouth. She gets along well with her foster siblings and loves stealing their tennis balls. We have enjoyed having her as an addition to our LBD family.
Where Are They Now? Adoption Update!
BSR Alum "Ellie"
We were locked-in for 8 days-7 nights in the 1,700 square foot Admiral's Suite at a luxury hotel. A room on the top floor with private hot tub, 2 bathrooms, and 3 balconies (1 overlooking the golf course, 1 overlooking the water, 1 overlooking the resort pool.) And the room did not cost any more than the base room because we were holding our conference at this hotel.
As we got closer my wife asked, "do they allow dogs in the Admiral's Suite?" I replied, "sorry but they do not allow dogs in the Suite, but they have regular rooms on the ground level that accommodate dogs."
Frances said, "we need a room for Ellie with a king bed so all 3 of us can be together." Guess where we stayed?... Ground floor with the other dogs!
We arrived at the hotel and Ellie was the life of the lobby. Everyone came out and said what a beautiful dog she is. "Love those golden eyes." "Her coat is so beautiful." But the most common question, "what breed is she?" Everywhere we went that week she was making new friends. It was actually a very good test for us as we had only adopted her 6 weeks prior to that. When we adopted Ellie her foster parents were just socializing her after her rescue.
When we arrived to our room there was champagne and dog biscuits, on the ground level. Ellie sniffed around then made herself at home, on the bed. For the rest of the week that was, "home" for Ellie. Don't mistaken this for her becoming lazy. No... She was up at her regular 5:30am for a long walk and Frisbee toss then a swim. How could life get any better?!
I am not surprised we went to the dog room rather than the Admiral's Suite as we have done that the past 11 years for this event for our prior Boykin Rescues, Hershey and Bella. I can say, given the choice of the Admiral's Suite without our Boykin or ground floor with Boykin, we will make the same decision again.

Meet Our Board of Directors!
Boykin Spaniel Rescue, Inc. is very fortunate to have a very experienced Board of Directors. We were overwhelmed with all of those who expressed interest in joining. We are pleased to announce that Beth Crocker and Margaret Wienges joined our Board in January. Please click the button below to learn more about our Board of Directors!
We asked, and you told us!
We reached out to our donors early in the year to ask their opinion of ease of donating, acknowledgements and marketing. Here is what we found out!
- 67% use our online portal and 100% of those like it
- 96% are satisfied with acknowledgements
- 96% believe BSR does a great/good job of marketing
- Where people keep up-to-date more diverse than expected (we thought mostly on social media); increase in diversity
- What BSR does best: Dog Care
- What BSR needs to work on: Expressing our needs
In response to this awesome feedback, we have implemented the following:
- We have started a "Did You Know?" campaign on social media. Here we will be sharing fun facts about BSR~ past and present. If you have a fun fact, please send it on!
- We will be sending actual cards for tribute donations.
- We are actively working on getting more "Where are they now?" stories. We heard that you want to know "whatever happened to......?" So, if you have a BSR alum, PLEASE send your pictures, videos and updates. Each dog will have their own page on our website, too! Send them to lbrownbsr@gmail.com

BSR's Corporate Sponsorship Program
BSR is very fortunate to have so many businesses that support us. We wanted to find a way to recognize their support and say "thank you". While BSR does not endorse products or services, we do know that there are some great products, services and people that are behind us and say "yes" every time they are asked!
