COLLEGE CHRONICLE ISSUE 14, 2021

FareWELL TERM 3

Welcome to our final newsletter for Term 3. This term has been filled with wonderful learning opportunities for our students; with Book Week, Science Week, camps, chess tournaments and training, debating and many wonderful units of work.

Over the past two weeks the Primary classes have participated in Student Led Conferences; an innovation was added this year due to restrictions with the conferences being conducted online. We were so proud of our students as they conducted their conferences with confidence and explained the rich learning that has occurred this year. Thank you to all the parents who participated and supported their children. A special thank you to the teachers for their work, organisation, and support of the students.

Our Year 12 students are entering their final weeks of schooling, with only two weeks of lessons in Term 4 before their study leave begins prior to their final examinations. During the holidays our amazing Year 12 teachers are running workshops to assist students with final assignments and exam preparation.

We would like to thank our Year 12 students for being such a blessing to the College; they have been an encouragement and example to our younger students. We appreciate their demonstration of great character, resilience, and leadership in another challenging year.

As a community can we please continue to pray for them, especially for God’s covering and that they will be able to focus, persevere and complete all the work that is before them. Pray especially that we can finish the school year without interruption and celebrate all the special events planned for next term. We are so thankful that we have experienced a term with minimal disruption, given the situation interstate.

We would again like to express our thanks to all of our SVCC families, for continuing to show grace and understanding during this time. Our parents and caregivers are such an important part of school life, and we certainly look forward to the time when we are able resume many of the on-campus activities that bring us together as a school community. I trust the holiday break will be a time that is relaxing and refreshing for each family.

For any families who are moving away from SVCC at the end of 2021, we would appreciate if you could please contact our Registrar, Chanine van der Hoff, to notify us in writing to fulfill our requirement for one term’s notice.

3D Animation & Graphic Design

CDW Studios Visit

The Year 10 3D Animation & Graphic Design class visited CDW Studios in the Adelaide CBD on Thursday 23 September. They were given a tour and demonstration by the founder of CDW Studios, Simon Scales. Southern Vales Christian College started a 3D Animation subject in conjunction with CDW Studios in 2020. This subject starts at a Year 10 level but is also available for Year 11 students. During Term 3, the Year 10 students learnt 3D animation skills in online sessions with a professional 3D animator from CDW Studios. When visiting the studios for the excursion, the students were able to meet their instructor, Duncan, in person for the first time.

CDW Studios School of Visual Effects and Entertainment Design has been running since 2011, providing students Australia wide with the most up to date and relevant education available to work in the VFX and entertainment design industry. 3D animation is an exciting growth industry with very high demand for graduates from CDW Studios. Southern Vales is able to provide students with industry-ready, future-proof skills and knowledge from working with CDW Studios.

The Year 10 3D Animation and Graphic Design students will be presenting their work at Arts Alight: Creative Arts Extravaganza 2021. They are currently working on Character Designs.
