Part II of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Review
After Labor Day it seems ocean and sand start to fade from our weekly vocabulary. Autumn is on our minds and the large retailers are busy pushing us as quickly as possible to the hectic winter holidays. I love the beach towns after the end of summer. In September the water is still warm and the crowds have left. October and November are too cool for swimming, but a wonderful time to view the effects of changing seasons. The Mid-Atlantic is at one of it’s most beautiful from mid-October in the North to late November in the South. Fall is a great time to see the ocean from a different perspective. Just a few reasons come to mind besides the sea itself: Cooler weather, significantly lower hotel rates, well rested wait staff, uncrowded boardwalks and almost instant seating at any restaurant. If you get the chance to take in the Autumn canopy in Sussex County Delaware or near Rehoboth Beach here are a few eateries that are a joy to visit in Summer and Fall. They are all just a few blocks from the beach, which gives one a great excuse to take in a nice post-season stroll after you dine. If you love boutique and outlet shopping it is a great time to get started on gift purchases. Many boutiques shutdown for winter, so generous end-of-season sales are common after September. For out-of-state visitors remember Delaware has no sales tax!
Azzurro Italian Oven
Though the outside of the building feels more like an updated farmhouse, the inside decor is modern/contemporary. The staff is friendly and the seating comfortable. We had a lovely waitress that really knew her wine pairings for the menu. As one would expect they have a great selection of Italian wines that are conveniently noted on their menu as pairings with each entree. The front dinning room is just off the entrance and felt a little narrow and exposed. However the rear dinning areas has accommodating tables for couples or larger groups.
Best to call ahead for reservations during peak season!

Cuvée Ray Wine Bar
The name may sound intimidating, but you don’t have to be an expert on wine or have a precise palate. They knowledgeable staff provide samples and are very helpful in developing your understanding of their selection. Our visit was around 6pm on a mid-week summer afternoon. Thankfully they were not crowded and that gave plenty of time for us to talk to our waiter about the menu. My seven year old enjoyed the pesto flatbread. The steak and pork chop dishes we had were perfectly cooked. Very nice dining experience. There can be longer waits for seating during the weekend. On our first attempted at a visit, we were told they had a two hour wait time. Lesson learned: get your reservation a day early if you plan on dining between Thursday and Sunday.

G Coastal Cuisine
I wasn’t sure what to make of this restaurant as we past it on an evening walk. The dining room appeared empty. We decided to try it on the recommendation of a passerby. Reservations were needed, but we were glad we made the effort. I loved the fusion of Asian and American flavors. The roasted 1/2 chicken with garlic and szechuan is perfect on a chilly fall day. The decor reflects the same eclectic mix as the menu. The dining area is in the front and the bar area is in the back, which kept the noise to a minimum and allowed us to have an enjoyable meal. A great place to stop in for happy hour.

EGG
One of the best places to get breakfast in Rehoboth Beach is Egg Restaurant. The interior gives you a bit of whimsy with the charm of a country diner. It is worth the walk from seaside hotels or homes, but you will need to bring a healthy appetite. The menu is full of delights such as Sriracha Bacon Candy and Praline French Toast . Be prepared for a crowd, the food is good and at peak breakfast time seating can take twenty minutes or more.
