Coker Softball Weekly Preview 2/27-3/1

LAST TIME OUT

The Coker University Softball team went 3-1 in the Coker Classic this past weekend. The Cobras swept Fairmont State University in doubleheader action on Friday (Feb. 21). The Cobras then went on to defeat Bloomsburg in run-rule fashion with a 9-1 victory on Saturday (Feb. 22). Coker's eleven game when fell short to Mount Olive in 3-2 defeat on Sunday (Feb. 23). The three wins put the Cobras at an overall record of 11-2 on the season.

THIS WEEK

The Coker University softball team will look to kick off this week in South Atlantic Conference play when they host Queens (N.C.). on Thursday (Feb. 27) in a doubleheader. Game one is set for 1:00 PM and game three at 3:00 PM. The team will then travel to Tigervile, S.C. were they will take on North Greenville on Saturday (Feb. 29). Then they will be back home on Sunday (Mar. 1) when they host King University in a non-conference matchup with game one set for 1:00 PM

Queens N.C.

The Queen's N.C. Royals come into Thursday's matchup with a 9-6 overall record. The Royals six losses have come from Emmanuel College (7-5), Bentley University (7-4), Rollins College (2-1), (5-0), Francis Marion University (4-3), and Union (TN) (14-12). Coker faced Union University earlier this season and had a 4-3 victory. Queens was selected to finish eighth in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Poll after finishing with a 10-10 conference record. The team returns two All-Conference selections in Courtney Pearson and McKenzie McCullen.

North Greenville University

The North Greenville University Crusaders come into Saturday's matchup with a 10-6 overall record. Three of their ten wins have come from South Atlantic Conference teams including Anderson (3-1) and Wingate (4-3) (1-0). Both Coker and NGU have been victorious over Georgia College this season. The Crusaders were selected to finish first in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Coaches Poll after finishing with a 14-6 conference record last season.

King University

The King University Tornado come into Sunday's contest with an overall record of 6-6. This season the Tornado's have defeated Davis and Elkins (9-0), Concord University (2-0), UVa-Wise (3-1) (3-1), Milligan (1-0), and Mars Hill (12-4). Three of their six wins have come from South Atlantic Conference members. King was selected to finish third in the Conference Carolinas Preseason coaches' poll after having 31-21 overall record last season.
