Walpole Field Hockey dominated Milton on Senior Night in their final regular season game, 10-0, on Thursday Oct. 25. The seniors were presented roses from underclassmen and posed for pictures with their families prior to the game.
After a slow first few minutes, senior captain Nikki Griffin scored the opening goal of the game. Following this goal, Griffin herself scored twice more, senior Captain Caileen Quinn scored, and juniors Sydney Scales and Lila MacKinnon each tallied one in the first half. In the second half, Scales scored twice again and Quinn scored once more. Senior Jenn Scanlon potted her first season goal late in the second, where she played center forward rather than her usual position at sweeper.
“Scoring was an amazing feeling and definitely the perfect way to wrap up my career,” said Scanlon. “I truly will never forget this night and this experience. Being coached by some of the best and creating friendships are things I’ll never forget. It was definitely worth every injury, every tear and every laugh I shared with my teammates.”
The Porkers end the season with a 17-1-0 record looking forward to a long postseason run. Their sole loss is to Moses Brown, a private school in Providence, Rhode Island. They are the number one seed in the South Division One bracket, and will face the winner of Mansfield versus Scituate at Turco Field on Saturday, November 3rd. Excited for the postseason, Griffin believes the team will succeed in the tournament due to the closeness of the team.
“Everyone on this team has worked so hard this whole season and I can’t wait to see what happens in the postseason,” said Griffin. “This team is very special as we have a bond that really helps us when we step onto the field.”
