Chris Barbosa Violin/viola Virtuoso

Chris Barbosa is a dynamic instrumentalist and composer from the Tampa Bay Region with styles ranging from classical to jazz, and bluegrass to hip-hop. Growing up he was heavily influenced by latin/salsa artist such as, Eddie Palmieri, Willie Colon, and Jerry Rivera, but classical music has always held his heart. Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, but the compositions of J.S. Bach grabbed ahold of his soul from a very young age, inspiring his viola playing. He has played as First Chair Violist with Tampa Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, and with other orchestral ensembles such as Terroir String Quartet, which was featured on WUSF 89.7, hosted by Bethany Cagle. He has studied at USF and FSU, and has collaborated on numerous projects with many phenomenal musicians such as, Gumbi Ortiz, Phil Traynor, and Christie Lenee. One such collaboration with Roy "Jazz" Grant, jazz-fusion house musician, hit the charts in Europe in 2018. Chris Barbosa is a true musical virtuoso playing absolutely every genre imaginable from classical, to bluegrass, to funk, jazz, merengue, soul, pop country, R&B, to name a few. He is currently playing with The Porch Sessions (a progressive instrumental rock group), Boxcar Hollow (a jamgrass band), K2theC (an indie/folk group), and Angie Ray & the Countrydelics (country band). He also performs solo acts with his Boss Loop Station and effects pedals, which he creates a mesmerizing atmosphere of sound for any occasion. He has also been inspired by J.S. Bach, Jean Luc Ponte, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Coltrane, Yo-Yo Ma, etc. He is available for booking recording sessions, composing/transposing music, and live performances.
