UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Senior Mike Watkins joined the Nittany Lions' 1,000-point club and Penn State earned its 12th-straight home win with an 87-58 victory Dec. 20 against Central Connecticut State.

Sophomore Myreon Jones led Penn State with 21 points, while Izaiah Brockington (11 points) and Lamar Stevens (10) also scored in double figures.

Watkins, the 37th Penn State player with 1,000 career points, is just the third Nittany Lion in program history with 1,000 points and 800 rebounds in his career.

HEAD COACH PATRICK CHAMBERS

  • Head Coach Patrick Chambers is in his ninth season leading the Nittany Lions and now has 137 wins at Penn State, fifth on the program’s all-time list.
  • Chambers' players have earned 29 Big Ten Conference honors, the most under any Penn State coach.
  • Chambers has 15 wins over Associated Press-ranked opponents, most of any Nittany Lion basketball coach.
  • The Philadelphia native previously spent two seasons as head coach at Boston University, guiding the Terriers to their first NCAA Tournament berth in nine years in 2010-11.
  • Chambers was also associate head coach of a Villanova team that reached the 2009 Final Four.

  • Junior Jimmy Boeheim ranks third in the Ancient Eight in scoring (19.3 points per game) and sixth in rebounding (6.2 rpg). Fellow junior Terrance McBride contributes 10.3 points per outing.
  • Head coach Brian Earl is now in his fourth season and helped guide the Big Red to the CIT last season. As a four-year starter at Princeton, Earl was the 1999 Ivy League Player of the Year and scored 1,428 career points. He is the brother of four-year Penn State letterwinner and Nittany Lion great Dan Earl.

PLAYER TO WATCH: LAMAR STEVENS

Senior Forward

  • Stevens leads the Nittany Lions and ranks fifth in the Big Ten with 16.2 points per game, while also averaging 7.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per outing.
  • With a career-best 13 rebounds vs. Yale, Stevens became the just the fourth Nittany Lion to post 1,500+ career points and 700+ career rebounds.
  • Selected to the All-Big Ten First team (media) after averaging a team-best 19.9 points and 7.7 rebounds per game last season.

The Bryce Jordan Center, one of the premier collegiate basketball facilities in the nation, is the home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Located on Curtin Road adjacent to Beaver Stadium, the spacious arena has a seating capacity of 15,261 for basketball and 16,000-plus for other events. The Jordan Center has a variety of uses, including athletic competitions, commencements and other academic events, trade shows, popular music concerts, artistic and cultural performances and family events. The Bryce Jordan Center is the largest arena in the state outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
