Video - Zabeth
Everyone has a different way of « caring ». Mine is through touch.
Therefore, I performed body paint sessions with multiple persons in their personal space. As I advanced, I observed that the touch of my brush strokes relaxed the models. They started talking to me and I called this « the hairdresser effect ». The sessions became a bonding moment for the models and me. I photographed each end result, that were indeed unique each time. However, simple pictures were not fitting to fully capture these precious moments. I wanted to see the paint grow on the bodies, hug their curves and gradually cover their naked skin. I wanted to integrate the discussions that we had. Therefore, I switched from pictures to stop motion video. I also started to record the discussions that I was having with the models.
This video called « Zabeth » is showing one particular session that I had with my French grandmother. The work is the combination of the casual or intimate discussions between a grandmother and granddaughter, the soft clicks of the camera taking pictures of each added brush strokes, and the stop motion. Intimacy is shared between the two people present during the session but also with the viewer that watches the video.
