Netflix TV Show Recommendations Cache Merriweather and Katrina Viloria

I Am Not Okay With This - Kat

Since its release in late February, this show has blown up in the media. I Am Not Okay With This is based on the comic book made by Charles Forsman, which is about a 15-year old teenager named Sydney Novak undergoing a series of adolescent angst such as figuring out her sexuality, awkwardness, and dealing with her family issues. After the sudden suicide of her father, Sydney's life becomes more difficult to navigate as she blames herself for his death, therefore, causing a disconnect within her family. Then, she discovers a mysterious superpower building within her. I recommend this show not only because of the unique storyline, but I think the two characters Sydney Novak (Sophia Lillis) and Stanley Barber (Wyatt Oleff) geniuenly work well together and you can see that connection very well. Although I Am Not Okay With This only has a handful of episodes out, it has already been called for a season two and I hope it continues to gain recognition.

The 100 - Cache

The 100 is set in a post-apocalyptic world in which a nuclear war destroyed civilization 97 years prior. The only known survivors are those living on twelve different spaceships that have banded together in order to keep the human race alive. The life support is slowly deteriorating, and they are in need of more supplies that could only come from Earth. To solve this situation, 100 "expendable," criminals, teenagers are sent to Earth to determine if it is still habitable. The show follows Clarke Griffin and the friends as well as the enemies she makes along the way. Focusing on the ways that these children try to survive, the story is interesting in every which way. The plot and character development along the way makes up for any flaws. I would highly reccomend it to anyone who enjoys the post-apocalyptic setting and the journey that the characters have to take in order to survive.

American Crime Story - Kat

Based off true crime events, American Crime Story centers around America's most notorious crimes and criminals by illustrating their story. In the first season, it is about the double homicide of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman and as it was believed to be O.J. Simpson to blame. This season goes through the series of events such as the LAPD discovering the victims, the press, jury selection, the White Bronco chase, and all leading up to the verdict of whether or not O.J. Simpson is guilty. The second season follows through with the assasination of designer Gianni Versace. He was shot and killed outside by Andrew Cunanan who, as viewers, we watch in his perspective as the assasinator. I recommend American Crime Story because this show offers a different viewpoint on the situation or at the very least dramatizes the story to emphasize the facts and may even cause the viewers to feel sympathy.

Degrassi: Next Class - Cache

Following after the previous Degrassi series, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi: Next Class is follows a group of students at Degrassi Community School who have to face a numerous of challenges involving teenage and high school life. From gender identity to social issues such as religion and racism, Degrassi: Next Class has it all. While the show itself may portray a good portion of these situations as exaggerated, it still does a good job at touvhing base on a lot of these problems. The show is rather diverse and drama-filled. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys high school and teen drama. Degrassi: Next Class thrives from the drama aspect of the show, and it is just another mindless show to watch and enjoy. The amount of characters also guarantees at least one favorite, so if you are not watching for the rest of the people, it is always nice to find out what happens to the ones you do. With four seasons with 10 episodes each and each episode being 24 minutes long, Degrassi: Next Class is easy to get sucked into.

The Originals - Kat

As a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries, The Originals is set way before then. Before Elena, Damon, and Stefan, the storyline focuses on the original bloodline of vampires named the Mikaelsons who once reigned supreme above all supernaturals. The series begins with Klaus Mikaelson returning to the city of New Orleans, the home in which his family built. He finds that the city is being controlled by his former friend, Marcel and is later joined mainly by his siblings Elijah and Rebekah to claim back the city. As a recommendation, I think throughout the whole Vampire Diaries universe, The Originals reigns superiority because throughout a whirlwind of emotions, the storyline stresses the importance of family and loyalty towards one another even if they are not related by blood.

Instant Hotel - Cache

Instant Hotel is an Australian reality and competition TV show. It follows a group of homeowners who have transformed their homes into hotels and are judged by a specific set of criteria. The one who has the highest score in the end, wins an ultimate prize. While this may seem like another competition art show, the reality aspect of it and being able to see the art and thought process of said art is what truly makes the show. The cast has easily likeable and unlikable characters. You will for sure have someone that you root for the most over everyone else. The hotels are very interesting in design and the explanation behind some of them really makes you appreciate the hard work and dedication a majority of these homeowners have put into their homes. I highly recommend this show for anyone who enjoys reality tv shows as well as the art competition genre. With two seasons and 18 episodes in total, Instant Hotel is a binge-worthy show.

Dynasty - Kat

If you love drama, then this is for you. This series is about the Carrington family as they try to build their legacy name or as they call it, a dynasty. The first season stars Elizabeth Gilles as Fallon Carrington and she finds her father, Blake, being engaged to a new woman named Cristal. Fallon is very independent and driven as she attempts to become promoted at Carrington Atlantic, the family business, and build her own legacy. Although as she is denied and the Carringtons become suprised in the wake of the suspicious death of Cristal's former lover, things do not remain harmonious for long. From the 1980s original, this reboot illustrates a more modern day touch, but still preserve those original elements.

American Vandal - Cache

American Vandal is a true crime mockumentary that explores the aftermath of a school prank that left 27 school cars vandalized with spray painted symbols of phallic images. The show follows Dylan Maxwell, the suspected student of the school prank. Sophomores Peter Maldanodo and Sam Ecklund investigate and shoot the mockumentary as an attempt to uncover the truth of who was actually behind the vandalism. I recommend this comedy filled show to those who enjoy toilet humor as well as the structure that documentaries tend to have. American Vandal takes its self seriously while not at the same time, and it makes it that much better. There are two seasons of American Vandal, both of which are completely worth the watch.

Victorious - Kat

This teen sitcom stars Victoria Justice as Tori Vega, a teenager who attends a performing arts high school after an incident with her older sister, thus, causing Tori to take her place in the showcase. The school, Hollywood Arts, involve subjects like as musical and theatrical performances. Here, Tori meets Andre Harris (Leon Thomas III), Robbie Shapiro (Matt Bennett), Jade West (Elizabeth Gillies), Cat Valentine (Ariana Grande), and Beck Oliver (Avan Jogia) for whom the storyline follows their life, but mainly Tori's. I recommend this show because it is a huge throwback to the 2010s and Nickelodeon. Not only does it have some good songs, but all four seasons are now on Netflix.

Daybreak - Cache

Daybreak is a post-apocalyptic universe in which everyone categorized as adults have been turned into zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies. It is loosley based on the comic series by Brian Ralph. The series follows a 17 year old, high school outcast by the name of Josh Wheeler who is searching for his girlfriend Sam Dean. He is later joined by characters Angelica and Wesely who help him in his search for Sam Dean while also sticking together to survive the world that they live in. Daybreak is a teenage drama set in a universe that obviously mocks the character of post-apocalyptic shows. It is hilarious, mysterious and romantic while also keeping the apocalyptic feel. I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys quirky humor. With one season of 10 episodes, Daybreak is an easy distraction to the problems of everyday life.
