District News:
Next Roundtable - Monday August 5th
With Amy Reeves stepping down as Roundtable Cub Scout Chair, we can certainly use some help with Roundtable. It would be great if you have a Roundtable topic suggestion. It would be even better if you could back up that suggestion with a willingness to help get a speaker, make a presentation, or coordinate a Roundtable topic.
Remember that the September Roundtable will happen the last Monday in August due to the Labor Day holiday.
New Thunderbird Camping Chair
Yes, we have a volunteer to be the Thunderbird District Camping Chair!! Thank you to John Ebert, scoutmaster for Troop 179, for taking this role. Thank you to Matt Meyer for all the work you have done in the past as camping chair.
2019-2020 Thunderbird calendar is out

Activities and Camping
Popcorn Sales
Let’s look at the numbers:
- Our District 2019 Goal is $112,000 for the popcorn sale.
- We sold $98,330 as a district in 2018.
- We have 35 active programs in the district. Our unit participation goal is 25.
- We currently have 6 units signed up as of June 24, 2019. We need 19 more units to sign up.
- We had 18 units participate in the sale last year.
- We need 7 new units to sign up and participate this year.
Many units use the popcorn sale to drive their operating budget to pay for program activities. Popcorn sales can generate enough income to financially support your Scouting program for the entire year! Money from popcorn can be used to cover the cost of camporees, pinewood derby races, field trips, equipment or personal gear, badges, advancement and summer camp.
The more you sell the more money you have to deliver the program that youth expect. It takes one minute to sign up for a kick-off meeting: https://stlbsa.org/activities/fundraising/popcorn-sales/
Cub Grizzly Day Camp
We encourage Cub Packs to sign up as a unit. If your pack has a Camping Chair please have your Camping Chair collect all monies and information. The last weekend for this is July 29th!
Grizzly Camp is a unique camp that offers 4 weeks with 4 different themes! Each week will be filled with Shooting Sports, Swimming, Hands on Nature activities, and a trip to MUD CAVE! Scouts will also receive a lunch each day camp is in session. We encourage parents to participate with their child the week they are attending camp, but parent supervision is not required at this camp. We hire Den Leader walk arounds for each week. Please e-mail Suzie Voss at suzie.voss@scouting.org if you are interested in helping this year.

Troop 281 in the Rockies
Three scouts and two scouters from Troop 281 went to Rocky Mountain National Park for a Backpacking trip last month. They had to reroute their trek because part of the route was covered by 8 to 10 feet of snow that fell the day before they arrived... in late June!! (see picture below where they are standing in front of a wall of snow). They camped at Timber Creek Campground on the first and last day, and spent 3 days in the back-country. The third day in, they camped on snow. They actually melted snow from a snowbank to use for dinner and breakfast.
To add to the trip, they went whitewater rafting just south of Denver on Clear Creek in Idaho Springs, Colorado. Wet suits were definitely required!
Troop 51 at World Scout Jamboree
Five scouts from Troop 51 traveled to the World Scout Jamboree at the Summit.
