A Glance at the Cobras
The Coker College field hockey team will host Belmont Abbey in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday (Oct. 10) at 4 PM. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free to all Coker faculty, staff, and students.
Last Time Out
The Cobras last played on Oct. 3 when they dropped a 6-3 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas match at Queens.
The Navy and Gold jumped out to an early lead in just the fifth minute when Gajewski beat the Queens goalkeeper for the score. Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole was credited with the assist. Queens evened the score just five minutes later. However, the Cobras answered in the 21st minute when Carla Deuble guided an accurate pass to Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole to put Coker ahead 2-1.
Once again, Queens responded to Coker's score, adding one of their own in the 40th minute to even the game at two. The Navy and Gold tallied their final goal of the afternoon in the 41st minute, pulling ahead of the Royals 3-2. Mason found the back the cage during the score and Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole earned the assist. Next, Queens went on to score four unanswered goals for the victory.
Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole, Kelly Mason, and Amelia Gajewski led the Cobras offensively with one goal each. Additionally, Mason led the Navy and Gold in shots with five and shots on goal with three. In goal, Kelsey Gibbons gathered five saves.
Player to Watch
Amelia Gajewski currently leads the Cobras in points with eight and goals with four. The junior midfielder has recorded one game winning goal and has fired off six shots. Gajewski was tabbed the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Carlolinas Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week for games played during the week of Sept. 24 through Sept. 30. Gajewski led the Cobras to their first field hockey victory in over 40 years, with a 4-2 win over Converse in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action on Sept. 29. The midfielder netted a hat trick, scoring three goals for six points on three shots.
Gajewski is a psychology major and is the daughter of Steve and Ann Marie Gajewski.

Scouting the Belmont Abbey Crusaders
The Belmont Abbey Crusaders head into Wednesday's game with a 2-4 overall record, including a 2-2 mark in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas competition. The Crusaders began their season with a 3-2 victory over Newberry and then shutout Converse 3-0 on Sept. 25.
Heading into the 2018 season, the Crusaders were selected to finish fourth in the inaugural South Atlantic Conference Carolinas preseason poll. Sophomore Angelina Perrone was an All-ECAC selection and member of the All-America Rookie Team last season, while junior Kayley Williams posted team-best numbers of 21 points and 10 goals in her 2017 campaign.
Belmont Abbey has received excellent play from goalkeeper Paige Hinds this season. Hinds has given up the fewest amount of goals in the conference, allowing just 11, and is second in the conference in goals against average (2.00) and save percentage (73.8).
Player to Watch
Kayley Williams is currently tied for the team lead in points with four. The freshman forward has accumulated her four points off of two goals. Williams has recorded nine shots with a team-best eight on goal.
