Four Bemidji State University graduate biology students presented at the 78th Midwest Fish & Wildlife Conference, "Strengthening Natural Resources Through Collaboration," Jan. 28–31 in Milwaukee, Wis. More than 1,000 biologists and students from state federal, and tribal natural resources agencies from the Midwest, Great Plains, Rocky Mountains and Canadian provinces were in attendance.
BSU students had the opportunity to share their individual research projects through oral presentations.
Renik, graduate student from Hazelhurst, Wis., was one of 12 finalists for the Janice Lee Fenske Memorial Award for Outstanding Students. The award gives recognition to students' achievements in fisheries management during the conference.
The conference included 400 technical presentations, poster displays, plenary sessions, networking opportunities and social events for the students to experience.
"The Midwest Fish and Wildlife Conference allowed us to gain valuable insight into research being performed in our field, and to network with individuals from many different organizations and agencies," Renik said.
