MATCH STORYLINES

  • The No. 1-ranked Nittany Lions have won eight of the last nine NCAA titles and heads into the new campaign with a talented lineup. Many preseason ranking services have as many as nine Nittany Lions ranked. Penn State has eight returning All-Americans on its roster, including three wrestlers who have won national titles.
  • Navy saw action last weekend, going 2-1 on a West Coast swing that saw the team compete on the Broadway Pier in San Diego and aboard the celebrated USS Midway. Navy beat Fresno State 25-9 and dropped a hard-fought dual to No. 6 Wisconsin, 24-12, on Friday. Navy closed out its weekend trip with a 27-6 victory over California Baptist.
  • Penn State will head to West Point, N.Y. next Sunday for the Army-West Point Invite on Sunday, Nov. 17. The invitational will begin at 10 a.m. with many Lions making the trip.

TODAY'S LINEUP

HEAD COACH CAEL SANDERSON

  • Sanderson, the 12th head coach in Penn State history, is in his 11th season in Happy Valley.
  • Sanderson has guided the Nittany Lions to eight of the last nine NCAA titles, as well as numerous Big Ten and tournament titles.
  • The only NCAA wrestler to never lose a bout over four years, Sanderson is a four-time NCAA champions and four-time NCAA Most Outstanding Wrestler
  • Sanderson also was a 2004 Olympic gold medalist and a three-time Hodge Trophy winner

WRESTLER SPOTLIGHT: ROMAN BRAVO-YOUNG

Sophomore // 133 pounds

  • Earned All-American honors as a freshman after earning an NCAA eighth place finish. He also finished fifth at the Big Ten Championship.
  • Finished the 2018-19 season with a 25-7 record and 4-1 mark in Big Ten duals, despite missing part of the season due to injury.
  • Went 182-0 and won four straight state titles for Sunnyside High School in Tucson, Ariz.

REC HALL

Rec Hall is Penn State's busiest and most versatile venue, as five varsity teams which participate throughout all three collegiate seasons, call it home. Construction was overseen by architect Charles Z. Klauder, who also designed the University of Pennsylvania's Palestra, and upon completion, Rec Hall was considered one of the premier field houses in the nation. The facility has been the site of 21 collegiate national championships, 16 international gymnastics meets and five NIT games.
