SeaComms UI Phase By Sydney Avery & Aldrich Lucero

Introduction

Our app name is SeaComms. This is a social media app for people to get connected with their local beaches near them as well as all around the nation. The goal is to generate community activism for the coastal environment and be aware of any issues polluting their beaches. This app can help people easily discover what they can do to help. One company that has done a great job of promoting community activism for the coast is Ripcurl. They create clothing and surfing-related products while showing people what they can do to help. Our app SeaComms has two kinds of profiles: business profiles that post credible news and events related to the coastal environment, and a user profile open to anyone looking to learn more about the coast. This app is meant to inform people about the latest news relating to pollution on the beaches in their area or anywhere around the US. Users have the opportunity to post anything related to the beach and like any news article, post, or event posted by a business profile or any other user on this application. One of the main features is a map showing them exactly what kind of pollution is on the coast anywhere near or far from them. This is a great way to generate momentum to see the reality of just how bad the state of our oceans can get. This application makes it easier for people with busy lives to contribute to the fight against coastal pollution and motivate them to become better informed.

Users

The business profiles are meant for companies like Ripcurl who actively contribute to the fight against coastal pollution, as well as any NGOs like Oceana or aquariums like the Monterey Bay Aquarium who can make real change and help people learn more. The user profiles are open to anyone looking to learn more or for people who are curious and want to read about the latest issues. People tend to not want to stray away too much from their busy day-to-day lives, so this application makes it easier to make some kind of change no matter how small it may be. The more people that become informed on ocean-related issues, the brighter the future of the coastal environment gets.

Concept Ideation

We made a creative matrix listing out the features then started 2 versions of sketches. From there we moved on to creating digital wireframes listed below with annotations.

Wireframes

Our wireframes outlining the general idea for the app. Laid out are placeholders for the information that would be added later on in the prototype as well as annotations describing the function of each item.

User Journey

In the User Journey, we brainstorm the user's flow and how they navigate through the app. We take into consideration whether they are new or returning users, possible reasons for opening the app, and what they hope to gain from it. This is how a new user would navigate the app.

Style Guide

Adding to the presentation of the wireframes we decided on a color palette, typography, and iconography for the app. We chose to go with colors that match with a coastal aesthetic and mixed in grays and black for neutrals. For the typography we decided on Sophia Pro for the primary typeface and Proxima Nova for the secondary. This app is intended to convey detailed information to users, so using highly legible type was a must, while also looking sleek and enjoyable to the eye.
