BACKGROUND

- Work concerned with how society would keep coherence in the modern world
- Believed in the importance of social changes and social pressure put on individuals
- Believed that deviance performs a critical and positive social function
"NO people exist whose morality is not daily infringed upon. We must therefore call crime necessary and DECLARE that it can not be NON-existent, that the FUNDAMENTAL CONDITIONS of social organization, as they are understood, logically imply it"
Steroids in sociology
Steroids are often looked down upon in our society and want to be banned all together. However, looking at it as a sociologist there is a different view. Going off of Durkheim's theory, steroids should not be banned from professional baseball. Steroids create wrongful social norms but still stay a popular past time for many Americans. Deviance in sports has come to show culture changes that has to do with gender in sports. Breaking the rules help shape and form societal morals.
