Homecoming 2018 Pirate TV: Flip through the channels with peedee to celebrate ECU

Members of Pirate Nation gathered to celebrate homecoming at East Carolina University Oct. 15-20. The week included competitions and events such as a canned food drive, parade, football and more.

CANNONBALL KICKOFF, Oct. 15

Cannonball, an annual tradition, is held at the start of homecoming week to celebrate ECU. The event also featured an involvement fair.

The event was held on the Mall, and activities included inflatables, free T-shirts, food, live entertainment and more.

During Cannonball, the top 10 King and Queen candidates from PiratePort voting by the student body were announced for the first time.

BANNER COMPETITION

Banners had to be designed with this year's theme: "Pirate TV." Each submission also had to include the student organization's name, ECU mascot and our opponent, UCF. Banners were judged Tuesday in the Student Recreation Center, and winners were announced by the day's end.

Third place: Club Cheer and Pi Lamda Phi @ ECU
Second place: Chi Omega and Phi Kappa Alpha.
First place: Alpha Gamma Delta & Delta Sigma Phi.

NPHC STEP SHOW

CANNED FOOD DRIVE

“We asked student organizations to focus on the collection of food products which can be easily utilized by feeding programs for youngsters.” – Brittanie Frieze, food bank volunteer coordinator

Forty student organizations participated in the Homecoming Canned Food Drive. Students delivered 22,388 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Greenville for distribution to local families experiencing food insecurity.

2018 Alumni Awards Ceremony – A Purple and Gold Evening

On Thursday, Oct. 19, ECU recognized alumni and friends who have demonstrated outstanding merit and achievement during a dinner and awards ceremony.

Dr. Charles Jenkins ’66, ’67 (left), Lt. Commander Kathleen Ferguson ’07 and Danny Scott ’84, 2018 ECU Alumni Award recipients participate in the Homecoming Parade. Homecoming Parade

The ECU community watched the annual homecoming parade on Saturday, during which members of the Marching Pirates performed.
