Pirates aboard! Future Pirates enjoy 2019 Admitted Students Day

The East Carolina University campus shouted a big "Ahoy, Mateys!" on Saturday, March 30 to more than 2,000 students and guests who attended Pirates Aboard! Admitted Students Day.

Admitted students participated in a full day of sessions, which included extensive time with their intended majors; updates from financial aid, housing, dining and student life; campus tours; and an opportunity to visit different styles of residence halls. The day provided the opportunity for admitted students to connect with future classmates and professors while also learning about the organizations and services ECU offers.

“Our prime directive, number one mission, is the success of our students. We want to guarantee that, it’s the number one reason for our being and we never lose sight of that.”

– Dr. Ron Mitchelson, Provost

Main Campus Student Center

Admitted students and their families got a look at the new Main Campus Student Center, which opened Jan. 7. Lofty 'ECU' letters out front make a bold statement, welcoming Pirates to the new front porch and living room of the university. They're great for photos, too.

The 220,000-square-foot facility features Dowdy Student Store's new location, the Black Box Theater, a 24-by-42 foot Pirate Vision digital display, six dining options including Raising Canes and Au Bon Pain, student organization offices, lounges, study rooms and a gaming center.

By the Numbers

  • More than 50 departments/colleges held academic information sessions.
  • 118 departments/groups/organizations participated in the Academic & Student Affairs Fair
  • More than 300 staff members across campus helped with the event, including Pirate Navigators, ECU Ambassadors, Admissions staff, faculty, bus drivers, parking and transit, financial aid, Dowdy Student Stores, ECU Police, dining staff and more.
Rachel and Camille, both from Wake Forest High School, met up outside the Student Recreation Center with their families. Rachel will pursue a degree in biology, and Camille is considering communication.

We’re not sure who came the farthest, but future Pirate Nene Jallow brought family with her from Gambia, a country in West Africa.
