Paso Robles High School’s Agriculture program hosted Ag Day at Flamson Middle School for the first time in the past four years. This showcase is made to inform the incoming freshman about the five agriculture classes the high school offers them. Current eighth graders get the jist of their ag elective options through booths with demonstrations and activities.
“My favorite part was getting to teach younger minds about what I’m passionate about seeing the interest in Ag,” Sophomore Avery Hambly said.
The agriculture classes offered for ninth graders are: agriculture leadership and communication, agriculture welding, introduction to livestock, floral design, and environmental horticulture. This sneak peak helps the incoming ninth graders explore and learn what elective and pathway applies to their personal interests.
This fair like simulation included hands on activities like flower dying, flower dissecting, seed planting, boutineer building, honey tasting, and welding stations. At each station there were at least two high school students who were experts on their topic.
Some eighth graders swarmed around the mini petting zoo -which include rabbits, goats, sheep, and a calf- trying to get as many pets in as they could. As others stood in the coliling line as they waited to get suited up for a welding preview.
“My favorite part of ag is the community and friendship it has given me. Through FFA I found another family that will help me succeed in my high school career,”- Hambly.
