Hurricane Florence was a category one hurricane with winds ranging between 90-140 mph when it touched down in North Carolina. Several cities suffered massive damages from trees falling on houses and thousands of electrical shortages occurred across the state. Jacksonville accumulated more than four feet of rain which resulted in serious debris. Schools were severely damaged resulting in over three weeks of closure.
HURRICANE FLORENCE IMPACT- 1.2 million people had to be evacuated. Over half a million homes and businesses were without power. Property damage is estimated at 22 billion dollars.
Liberty's Send Now team partnered with Samaritan's Purse to go and help the victims of Hurricane Florence in the city of Jacksonville. The team spent a week clearing fallen trees, helping mud out homes, and ministering to the homeowners. At the same time, a team of US Marines were assisting the area. The students were given the opportunity to serve alongside the military as together they helped restore the damaged neighborhood.
Reflecting on the trip, student Abby McDonough said, "Send Now is able to go into a community, offer aid, and be selfless servants. We not only highlight that the younger generation wants to help make an impact, but we highlight that Christ is always there for people. I would recommend Send Now to any Liberty student."
