Adaptive and plays well with others Nate Brown

Many people will describe themselves as a people person or that they have great interpersonal skills. One thing that I have learned from working with some of the brightest minds in the world is that buzzwords on your resume doesn't always capture your true talents. I can't speak for everyone, but starting my first job at 13 helping out a local animal farmer and then to go on to test self driving cars at Uber, I am confident that two key traits helped me achieve the accomplishments that I have today:

Being adaptive and learning to play well with others

Retail Associate

While I was attending Butler Community College to obtain my Business Administration degree, I found a job at the local mall in Butler, PA renting tuxedos. I had an awesome boss. She gave me tasks that taught me to be responsible with a company's assets. I gained her trust, and she would let me open and close the store as a key holder and fill out the income slips that the corporate office would need. I always would remember putting the money in those little black bags and driving to the bank to drop them off. Thanks Nikki!

It didn't matter if you were a biker or an activist, everyone had something it common. Everybody came in to celebrate something. I learned that usually, we all have a common denominator that will aide us to get along with mostly everyone that you come into contact with. In the workplace, I have been able to hold many different positions and complete the tasks at hand without any issues pertaining to teamwork.

City launch / Vehicle Operator

Working in the R&D environment has taught me to be super adaptive to change. I started at Uber ATG the fall of 2016 in Pittsburgh. Shortly after my training, I was called to take part in launching San Francisco's operations. In SFO, I was able to really see what its like to be in a ever-changing environment. Being in SFO taught me how to work with people from many different teams, how to talk and conduct my self around the media, and how to keep my cool when things are not going the way that they are supposed to be.

After the SFO launch I was then called on to be on a team of just 4 people to launch the Phoenix operations. This time, my task was to identify and train the the soon-to-be leadership team in the city as well as prepare the operators to have a successful launch in their own city. I took what I learned from Pittsburgh and SFO and applied it to my own leadership role. I played a major part keeping people motivated, creating an atmosphere where everyone had their own part in the big goal, and how to be a team player when the going gets tough. When issues would arise, this is when I would learn to communicate across the country with the engineers, communications and legal teams, and relay that information to the members of the organization. Being able to understand people and what they need played a big part on my success as a leader.

Project and Supply Chain Management Expected Graduation of 2019

While I was in San Francisco I spent some time learning about another piece of the company called UberFrieght. Understanding how goods move from point A to point B has led me to pursue a career in the Supply Chain. I am now attending Penn State University at the New Kensington campus. After graduation, I want to take what I have learned from my experience in autonomous vehicles and apply that in my career.

Hobbies

My main hobby has to be cooking. I love to grill because every time you grill, there a many factors that can shape the way your food can turn out. I love a challenge plus it gets me outside.

Gardening also gets me outside. I start everything from seeds so I can have get a good sense of growth. Plants give me many examples of nonverbal communication. Think about it, about twenty small seeds, the earth, sun and water created this garden.

When I have tasks at work that involve creating something from the start, I take this same approach. Start small, understand your resources (time and people), listen and understand how your actions are affect the outcomes (nonverbal communication), and watch your creations grow.

This explains who I am and what I can bring to the table (literally). I take on stressful tasks and can work alone or in a team under any condition. I am looking forward to bring my talents to anyone that can use them. I attached my resume for more details on my work experience,
