Monday, Nov. 15

Dear University community,

Mark your calendar to welcome the most wonderful time of the year and light up our campus with holiday cheer. We’ll do so Monday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Killam Library, facing University Boulevard. Join us for a cup of cocoa and a cookie or two. We might even try to carol!

  • Our annual Giving Day is Tuesday and Wednesday. Share with friends and family and help us exceed last year’s campaign. This student-centered campaign calls on alumni around the world and the community at large to support student financial aid, campus facilities upgrades, students traveling and presenting research with faculty, or areas of greatest need. Find out more.
  • This month, our Performing Arts faculty and students are presenting some great live performance opportunities…free of charge. The Choir and Voice Studio Recital is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 17. A Chamber Ensemble Recital is Friday, Nov. 19. Fall Dance Concerts are Nov. 19 and 20. For fans of traditional mariachi music, a Mariachi International concert is Monday, Nov. 22. Here’s more.
  • Also Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. in AIC 128, the Social Justice Leadership Series honors Indigenous Peoples Month with “Learning Fact from Fiction About Columbus Day and Thanksgiving.” The face-to-face event will feature guest speaker Dr. Donovan Weight, TAMIIU associate professional of History. Find out more.
  • Congratulations to the TAMIU All-In Democracy Task Force for their stellar efforts in increasing voter participation rates on campus. A recent report by the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education indicated a 53% voting participation rate on campus among students at TAMIU. Great job, Task Force!
  • Yes, it’s time to plan on Finals. See Schedule link below.
  • Fall Commencement Ceremonies are Thursday, December 9, 2021, at the Sames Auto Arena. • Registration for the Spring Semester 2022 is underway. Don’t wait to plan your next semester now.
  • The National Guard will continue to administer COVID-19 vaccines on campus through Wednesday, December 15, 2021. The MODERNA and PFIZER vaccine are currently available to eligible individuals. For those interested in receiving a booster dose, the CDC has authorized the mix and match of vaccines. At least six months must have elapsed between second dose and a booster dose. In addition, Pediatric PFIZER doses are available on campus for children between 5 and 11 years of age.
  • COVID-19 vaccines will NOT be available on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 as the vaccine site will be CLOSED in observance of the holiday. All updated hours are here.
  • TAMIU’s random COVID-19 testing continues. If selected, you must test within 72 hours. Testing is for ALL members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff. That’s all of us…because all of us are in this together!

Have a great week… and Go Dustdevils! Stay safe and stay well.
