Dear University community,

  • It’s hats off to all of you who helped to “Make A Difference” this Saturday in our community engagement with our Día del Río partners at the Las Palmas Trail. It was truly impressive to see 300+ students, faculty and staff taking part and sharing their time. This was some intense, physical labor and made a huge difference at the Trail. Thanks to the Student Government Association’s L.O.V.E. Committee and the Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement for encouraging and leading this effort.
  • And we’re off to a Spooktacular start with this week’s Wicked Wellness and Spooky Week 2021. There’ll be a blood drive, a WELLoween Health Fair, Spooky Movie Night, Calavera Painting, a Car Parade with Trunk & Treat, an Altar de Muertos display, and our Maroon Madness with TAMIU Dustdevil Athletics. See schedule here and have a “ghoulish” good time!
  • Coming up: We’re looking into the future and need your help. TAMIU has engaged the services of Perkins&Will, a leading architectural firm, as we embark on a Master Plan to guide the development of our campus…and we’re seeking your input.
  • YOU have a rare opportunity to help “forecast” the future of TAMIU. What do YOU think? What will our campus look like in 25 years? What should be added? What might be improved? What might we anticipate? Our last Master Plan was completed in 2004, so we’re eager to look into the future. Students, join us from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2 in the Student Center Rotunda. Faculty and Staff, you’re next with a session from 2 – 4 p.m., also on Tuesday, in the Student Center Ballroom.
  • Yes, there’s a New Year coming…and a new Spring Semester 2022. Registration starts Nov. 1, 2021. Why not resolve to plan your next semester now?
  • Wanna dance? Why not do so at TAMIU? TAMIU Dance professors Jee Eun Ahn and Timothy Rubel will share an informal, on-campus info session Wednesday, November 3 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Breezeway between Dr. F. M. Canseco Hall and Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall. We offer a Dance minor and multiple performance opportunities across a variety of Dance disciplines. Check them out!
  • The TAMIU Art faculty “Think Fast” Exhibit, spanning a variety of mediums, is coming to an end Thursday, Oct. 28. You can still see the stunning selection by appointment by calling 956.326.2654.
  • TAMIU faculty, staff, students, and the public can access National Guard-administered COVID-19 vaccines through the end of November 2021. We appreciate their partnership and support. Here’s more on testing.
  • TAMIU’s random COVID-19 testing is underway. Remember, if selected, you must test within 72 hours. Testing is for ALL members of the University community: students, faculty, and staff. That’s all of us…because all of us are in this together! Please share our commitment.

Have a great week… and Go Dustdevils! Stay safe and stay well.

- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President
