#MyFreedom Day, which took place on March 16, 2021, is a widespread internet movement that highlights how slavery is still prevalent in today's modern day and age. While March 16 was a monumental day for modern slavery, as it brings awareness for many people around the globe, many are fighting to help the 40 million people trapped in slavery right now in the world.
Slavery is not a crime in over half of countries worldwide. While main media sources have not covered this problem for many years, many people are coming together and standing for change. A pledge by CNN led by students around the world encourages people to be aware of how their goods are made, and how people can spot signs of human trafficking, and stop it before it is too late.
One of the largest sporting events that takes place every year, the FIFA world cup is being boycotted right now because it is being held in Qatar. The lavish and intricate stadiums being built in a short amount of time are the works of thousands of workers in terrible work conditions getting little to no pay.
The only way to bring modern day slavery to an end is to speak out, to raise awareness of what is going on in the world. If you want to make change, the first step is to visit CNN, and take the pledge against modern slavery.
