Name: Tyler Marzano
Sport: Swimming
Grade: Senior
Events: 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle
Recent Performance:
Marzano finished in first place in both of his events in PV's meet against Passaic County Technical Institute on Wednesday. Although he was able to come out on top in his races, Pascack Valley lost by a score of 101-67.
Marzano's Contributions to the Team:
Marzano is a 4-year varsity swimmer who has made Junior Nationals and has even eclipsed nearly all of the boys swimming records. He is the captain of the team, and does not lack leadership qualities, as he loses his voice encouraging his teammates during meets.
Expectations for the Current Season
Prior to his senior year, Marzano had high hopes for his final season with PV. Even with the season being shortened due to COVID-19, Marzano is still optimistic.
“I went into the season just seeing where I could go with it. I had a lot of expectations for [my senior year] in previous years, but things get in the way,” Marzano said. “This year still has the potential to be a very strong year.”
At the beginning of his high school career, Marzano set the bar high in terms of his expectations, however he believes he has changed drastically as a person throughout his time at Pascack Valley.
“I definitely had high expectations for myself in the water, and I definitely am not what I expected to be four years ago," Marzano said. "I’m a lot different of a person than I expected myself to be.”
What Marzano Likes Most About Swimming:
To Marzano, being able to meet new people has been his favorite part of his high school swimming career.
“[My favorite parts are] the high school community and all of the people that I got to meet," Marzano said.
Marzano's Proudest Moment:
While traveling to the University of Connecticut for a meet with his club team, Marzano was able to spend quality time with his teammates, in addition to racking up some accomplishments in the pool.
“In December 2019 my club team went to [the University of Connecticut] for a meet, and I love hanging out with all [of] them,” Tyler said. “That was also my first time making the Junior National Team and making some Senior Metropolitan cuts. It was also my first time talking to a Division I coach.”
Coach’s Comment: “Tyler is a goal-oriented swimmer and has been since day one,” coach Courtney Rems said. “Before he was even on the team, he would ask me questions about the records held by previous swimmers. He brings an infectious drive and passion to the team, which has made him a great leader for the underclassmen.”
Marzano's Favorite Part about Pascack Valley:
Above all else at PV, Marzano enjoys the school spirit and school pride that the students possess.
“The whole community that's built around our name, [and how] everyone is so proud to be a part of PV,” Marzano said. [There is also] the sense of community and pride that we all have is really great.”
Future Plans: Marzano will be attending The University of Scranton this fall, where he will continue his swimming career while pursuing a career in business.
