Kindness is Magic Presents $10,000 Check to Bethlehem Area School District to Offset Student Lunch Debt
Kindness Is Magic, Inc presented the Bethlehem Area School District with $10,000 to help offset outstanding student lunch debt on November 10, 2020.
Kindness Is Magic President, Melissa Fillman, together with her children Emma and Robert, shared the donation received by their nonprofit as the recipient of the PPL Bright Lights award.
In honor of their 100th anniversary, PPL awarded ten Bright Lights grants of $10,000 to nonprofit agencies to help illuminate the outstanding contributions of individuals working to create a better world.
Kindness Is Magic was formed by the caring concern of Emma in first grade who began to buy lunch for students who didn’t have money to buy lunch.
Emma’s spark for a solution to help hungry classmates lead to the charity that has donated more than $36,000 to BASD since 2018.
Their Kindness has helped 305 students eliminate or reduce their outstanding lunch debt within the BASD.
The Bethlehem Area School District extends its heartfelt thanks to Melissa, Emma, Robert and their entire team for their overwhelming charity and support of our students.

Umpires needed, join the BUA to stay in the game!
Bethlehem Umpires Association (BUA) is actively taking applications for baseball umpires! Whether you are an experienced umpire, or looking to break into the game as a rookie, we have the appropriate level for you.
We offer a competitive level of play for all levels of experience and the opportunity to umpire throughout the greater Lehigh Valley area. Our organization officiates over 1500+ games for Little League, Travel Teams, Connie Mack, Youth Legion, and LVMSBL (Men’s League’s) from April until November. Our season was impacted with the COVID delay to the start of baseball but we still officiated over 800 games from July to November.
Take your passion for sports and turn it into a part time avocation that will enable you to give back to the community. We accept members starting at 16 and offer education, training and mentorships to improve your skills and obtain higher level games as you gain more experience.
If you are an experienced umpire and you would like to try to get involved in a group we would love to hear from you.
We meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month from February through September, contact us today through our website (www.bethump.org) or email us at bethumpassoc@gmail.com for more information! We look forward to speaking with you soon about umpiring for the BUA.
