"A Short Story about a Long Life" By Aziz Ganiev and Nijat Huseynov.

Tahir Hakimov was born in 1923 in Gazakh region of Azerbaijan. He had dreams to become a teacher and write books for children. Indeed, during his young ages, Tahir Hakimov was a teacher for one year. But soon he left the country for the frontline. The Great Patriotic War begun.

“I started working as a primary school teacher in Gazakh. Then, I went to the military”

"German soldiers started attacking us - Tahir Hakimov remembers those days - so, we were forced to go back. They took hostage us and sent to "8C" military camp. Then American soldiers started bombing this military camp. We were taken to "9B" military camp. We didn't have any hope..."

"...But, suddenly, American soldiers started to bomb "9B" military camp. German soldiers took us to a river. Then, accidentally, American soldiers came and released us. When I was released by American soldiers, they sent us to Russia. We were forced to go back to the military. But when I went there, I saw that, all teachers were released. I decided to write a letter to the Soviet Union. After the letter, I was released too."

"He was recruited as a soldier for the Soviet army to fight the Nazis. He had very painful and hard times in World War II. Tahir Hakimov was wounded and captivated by Nazis."

"Although Tahir Hakimov went through suffering and hard times as a soldier during WWII, he never forgot his dreams. When the war was over, he came back to Azerbaijan and later to Georgia. Thus, this ambicious and passionate man started to realize his dreams step by step".

"He wrote several books and was a teacher for sixty years in the Kvemo Sarali primary school in Marneuli region".

"Now, I am the only veteran who is alive from Shulaveri township and Gachagan village."

Tahir Hakimov lives in Kvemo Sarali village alone. His relatives are in Azerbaijan.

On May 26, 2017, there was a big conference at public school of Kvemo Sarali village. Many pupils, teachers and officials attended this special meeting in order to celebrate the 94th anniversary of the oldest person and former teacher of our village

Besides his birthday celebration, there was another memorable moment, his latest and fifth book was also presented to the attendees. His whole life and achievements are a true inspiration for us.

Today he enjoys time with his family members, playing backgammon and doing his other favorite activities.
