Good Afternoon Lady Aggie friends and family!!
As always, we hope that you all are doing well and are continuing to stay safe! We are back to update you on all that has been going on with the Lady Aggies over the past month.
On September 28th we officially kicked off our season with our first official practice of the year. Although, we return many familiar faces we also are faced with the task of welcoming ten newcomers and getting them up to speed. The first official practice of the year was a very competitive one.
"It went well," said A&T coach Tarrell Robinson. "I thought that we had a really good summer. I thought we had a great preseason. It was only expected for the first day to go well. There were no surprises. We've got an experienced group. We've got that championship vibe. It was good. We are moving in the right direction, but obviously, it's a process."
Below are some highlights from the first practice along with some practices since then!
The official start of the season also brought the release of our Big South Conference schedule. We open the conference schedule at home with a match up against Longwood University who finished 3rd in the Big South last season. Later in the year we take on the defending Big South champions in High Point University in Corbett Sports Center on February 2nd. It should be a very fun and exciting inaugural year in the Big South! We look forward to seeing you all in the stands supporting the Lady Aggies!
The start of official practice also means the return of Lady Aggie of the Week. We announce a winner of Lady Aggie of the Week every week to the player who displays best what it means to be Lady Aggie for that week. So far we have named three Lady Aggies of the Week. The first two recipient's were two newcomers in Shareka McNeill and Jazmin Harris. This is not common early on but this shows how hard these two young women have been working so far! Our most recent Lady Aggie of the Week was Sean Kelly Darks. Sean Kelly won this award once last year in her freshman year.
On October 2nd after third quarter of the home football game against Robert Morris, the Lady Aggies were recognized for our MEAC Championship and NCAA tournament appearance with last years team. The Lady Aggies finished the season 14-3 and were the MEAC regular season and tournament champions which earned the Lady Aggies a bid to the NCAA Tournament where we battled #1 seed NC State in a tight contest. The Lady Aggies finished ninth in the country in scoring defense and were the only team in the NCAA tournament to rank in the Top-10 in all seven defensive categories.
The rest of October is jammed packed for the Lady Aggies, as we continue to prepare for our first contest at UNC Chapel Hill. This week Coach Robinson is headed to Big South Media day, as we will also find out where the Big South coaches and media have picked the Lady Aggies to finish. We also will compete in two closed scrimmages to help fine tune and better prepare for the start of the season.
Thank you for your continued support!
