Grand Forks South Forks Lions

This past year has seen the South Forks Lions involved in many projects. The following are just a sample.

Character Challenge Day

South Forks Lions Club members participated with students of Winship Elementary School in a day long event that challenged students in ways that promoted teamwork, leadership, patience and trying new things. It was a fun day for all including Lions members, high school seniors and students.

The South Forks Lions Club partners with Winship Elementary School on several projects. The Lions Club determined that Winship School faced some extra challenges and the club answered the call to help where they can.

Sight4Kidz Screenings Going Strong

Several members of the South Forks Lions are involved in the vision screening program that screens hundreds of youngsters from area schools. Each screening day finds several youth referred on for further testing. The program, Sight4Kidz, aims to discover potential vision issues as early as possible so proper treatment can be obtained and precious vision maintained. A special thank you to all the school nurses and social workers that help coordinate these important screenings.

Tremendous Turnout for the Final Dick Compton Basketball Shootout

The 25th and final basketball Shootout was a great success thanks to the fans that came to cheer on the teams. One couldn't have asked for a better game to finish the 25 year run of the shootout. Number 1 ranked Four Winds/Minnewauken lost at the buzzer to the Thompson Tommies.

Fun Night

Thank You

Lions members write personal thank you notes to those that attended the annual Fun Night fund raiser. The event is the largest of the year for the South Forks Lions and raises funds for the many projects the club supports. This annual event requires much planning and is spearheaded by Lion Rex Huss and Lion John Knutson. The event would not be successful without the great community support it gets each year.

Lions Provide Much Needed Supplies to Winship Students

The South Forks Lions have partnered with Winship Elementary School on several projects over the last couple of years. One of the projects has the club donating much needed school supplies. The school serves many families with limited resources so the extra supplies are very much appreciated and help educators carry out their mission.

Charter Member George Hastings Honored

The South Forks Lions were privileged to celebrate Lion George Hastings 55 year anniversary as a Lion. Lion George was part of the original charter members, dating back to June 23, 1964. That is commitment. George is proud to be a Lion. George would boldly exclaim "I am" when the rhetorical question of the Lions pledge, "who is a Lion?" is asked at the start of each meeting. Members of his family, both personal and Lion, were in attendance. Once again, congratulations George.

Reading is Alive and Well at Winship School

South Forks Lions members participated in a reading day with students from Winship Elementary School in Grand Forks. Lions members read stories to students. A fun time was had by all. Here Lion Clair with school Principal Travis Thorvilson pose for a picture with students. The partnership with Winship, though relatively new, is very strong. The Lions thank Winship for including them in their activities. The hope is that the students gain as much from the relationship as do the Lions themselves.
