Athlete of the Week Jake Wolf

Recent Team Results: Pascack Valley captured a win at home over Passaic Valley by a score of 52-41 on Thursday night, bringing Pascack Valley's record to 5-4 on the season.

COVID-19 and its Impact on the Season:

This season, the team has a much shorter schedule than usual due to COVID-19. As a result, Wolf decided to make the most of his final season at PV. Wolf is in his third season contributing to the varsity team, something he has in common with teammate and fellow senior Austin Koolery.

“[Koolery] and I, coming in [as] three-year varsity players, we knew it was our year to ball,” Wolf said. “COVID [came, causing us] to have a limited number of games. [I decided] to just go out there and have fun. [I’m going to] have all the confidence in the world and go out there and do my thing.”

What Wolf Contributes to the Team:

Wolf has proven himself to be a leader both in the locker room and out on the court, according to coach Al Coleman.

“He is a leader both on and off the court and holds himself accountable in everything he does,” Coleman said.

Coach’s Comment: “Jake is an engaging and passionate young man. He is a direct extension of a coach on the floor,” Coleman said. “He's been a lot of fun to be around over the years, and his success has been directly attributed to his work ethic.”

Wolf's Athletics Outside of Basketball:

Being a three-sport athlete, Wolf is able to take something different away from basketball, soccer, and lacrosse.

“I’m a competitive person and no matter what, I want to win,” Wolf said. “Soccer and lacrosse are more fun for me. For the guys who take it as their most serious sport I want to do the best I can to be a help on the team.”

What Wolf Likes Most About His Sport:

His favorite part about basketball speaks to the competitive edge he has developed on the court.

“I love competitiveness and I just want to kill everyone out there,” Wolf said.

Best Basketball Memory: Having practice on Coleman's birthday

Funniest Moment while Playing Basketball: Max Yellin eating ice cream at a team pasta party

What Wolf Does In His Free Time: He enjoys drawing during his free time, and describes his hobby as drawing "trippy stuff".

Role Models: Wolf's father and John Blackgrove serve as his role models. Blackgrove holds the record for most points in Pascack Valley history, in addition to being named the 2000-2001 Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year.

Future Plans: Wolf plans on attending college and majoring in sports journalism after he wraps up his high school career.
