Run for the roses: The Kentucky Derby Museum Influencer Field Trip with #FrebergSM by Lacee Crail @local_lacee

My Social Media Class at the University of Louisville #FrebergSM was invited to be apart of an influencer project at the Kentucky Derby Museum

History of the Kentucky Derby Museum

Located in Louisville, next to Churchill Downs since 1985, the museum operates on it's own, with the goals of engaging, educating and exciting everyone to the best 2 minutes in sports- The Kentucky Derby! (Derby Museum.org)

Influencer Marketing

Marketing has changed over the years. Customer's don't trust big business, they trust people and they trust people to provide real opinions. Thus the rise of influencer marketing has expanded.

Influencers are

“passionate and skilled professionals who know how to communicate, engage, and create dialogue for all the right reasons” (Solis & Breakenridge, 2009, p. 94)

Consumers trust influencers because they build trust overtime and showcase authority on certain subjects. Consumers then feel more compelled to buy products shared by influencers, and this is where business can create partnerships and expand their business in to different markets.

Our Experience:

#FrebergSM really enjoyed the experience- despite the rain we got great content, knowledge and insight at the museum!

This is the entrance to the museum. They are doing expansion construction and parking is a little tough, but don't let that stop you from checking it out!

Barbaro won the Derby in 2006!

Tours:

There are many options for tours, including:

Historic Walking Tour-see the race track and hear history of the track, includes admission to the museum.

Behind the Scenes Walking Tour- see Churchhill Down's racing track and sneak a peek into millionaire's row, and the jockey quarters!

Special Tours include: Twilight Tour- Third Wednesday of every month- explore the track at night.

We did the historic walking tour

There has not been a woman jockey to win the derby- YET.

Secretariat had a 22 pound heart, much larger than the average horse's heart 9-11 pounds!

Checking out the paddock.

Checking out the winners circle with Abbie

47 barns houses a lot of horses!

The rain didn't stop Abbie and #FrebergSM from capturing great content!

Most of my stories on Instagram had 100 views, and I tried to tag the @derbymuseum and use the #derbyeveryday and tag the location.

Twitter content- Most of my posts got 50-100 views with 4-5 engagements. My post about the winner's circle got almost 600 views and 19 engagements! I tagged Abbie, the derby museum, used the hashtags #derbymuseum #FrebergSM #InfluencerClass

The Museum has a lot of interactive content to explore- included in price of admission!

You get to try your hand at being a jockey- my previous experience riding horses, helped me to win!

"The Greatest Race" is a 360 degree movie experience, like no other! It's the only 360 degree, 4K high resolution theater in the WORLD. It shares the story of race horses from birth to the Derby. I'll admit I shed a few tears and I'm ready to check out the Derby for myself!

It was fun to play jockey and learn facts about horse racing along the way!

Jockey's weigh between 108-114 pounds!

What are you waiting for? Plan your visit now!

Follow them on Social Media: to see the insider scoop, tips for parking with the construction, and learn more about horse racing.

This was my 1st trip to the museum, and I will be back!
