Photosynthesis and cellular respiration Digital laboratory system

What is photosyntesis?

photo - light

synthesis - put together

Photosyntesis is the process by which plants make their own food
CO2 from the air passes through small pores in the leaves, which are called stomata
WATER
Water is absorbed by the roots and passes through vessels in the stem on its way to the leaves
SUNLIGHT
Sunlight is absorbed by a green chemical in the leaves

Photosynthesis takes place in the leaves of plants. The leaves are made up of very small cells. Inside these cells are tiny structures called

chloroplasts

each chloroplast contains a green chemical called

chlorophyll

which gives leaves their green colour

plants need carbon dioxide, water and sunlight to make their food called glucose

in addition to glucose, plants also produce oxygen

Why is photosynthesis important?
It provides food and energy for animals.
It produces oxygen and removes carbon dioxide from the air.
CELLULAR RESPIRATION is what cells do to break up sugars to get energy they can use.
The simplified formula for aerobic cellular respiration C6H12O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O + Energy (as ATP) Glucose (sugar) + Oxygen → Carbon dioxide + Water + Energy (as ATP)
This process uses oxygen, and is called aerobic respiration.

This one is taken in the city of Belgrade, Serbia that is like an open gallery and it says:carbon dioxide + money: the planet is in peril. Accordingly, we need to change our awareness in order to protect her, because if we protect this peculiar planet, we will protect ourselves." • Cristian Ruiz - "Summer leaves"
