Delta Omega Travel is headed to one of the most talked about and hoped for trips of a lifetime for a 9 day, 8 night tour to Ghana Africa. One of the highlights of this escorted tour is the Afrochella Festival as well a visit to many of the historically significant places where our ancestors walked and lived.

We will begin our journey in Accra, Ghana where we will be met by our expert guide who will travel to all of our destinations until we depart after the New Year celebration. We will stay in high premium standard rooms and be served breakfast daily as well as one lunch.

Itinerary

Day 1: December 24, 2021 Start the trip by being picked up in our air-conditioned vehicle at the airport. After a traditional welcome, we will take you to your hotel. Get prepared for a fascinating and emotional tour filled with cultural and historic highlights of Ghana. Day 2: December 25, 2021 Our first stop in Accra takes us to W.E.B. DuBois Centre where we learn about the Pan African culture and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. The rest of the day we visit the Afrochella Festival, a vibrant celebration of African culture. Day 3: December 26, 2021 Your first stop in Accra takes you to Jamestown where Accra originated. Start your day with a guided walking tour through Jamestown and watch the busy and colourful fishing harbour. Wander through the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and the Independence Square and learn about the history of Gold Visit the Makola Market and the Arts Centre, where you can watch the production of weaving baskets and other handcrafts. Day 4: December 27, 2021 After your breakfast we will start our journey to Kumasi in the Ashanti Kingdom. Continue to the Kente clothing weaving village, Adanwomase in Ashanti region, which carries on the centuries-old Kente-weaving tradition. After learning about the creation and tradition of Kente clothes you will be guided through the village. Later we will continue to Adinkra village where you will be introduced to the traditional meaning of the Adinkra symbols. Day 5: December 28, 2021 Today we will take you to the Ashanti King ́s Palace, which was used by the Ashanti kings until 1974. Take a walk around the historic site and visit the museum. Later you will see the 'unmovable' Komfo Anokye

Sword, which is said to be a symbol of unity between the Nzema and the Ashanti tribes. Continue to the cultural centre to view the amazing handicrafts. End your day with a visit at the busy Kejetia Market, the biggest market in West Africa with over 45,000 stalls. Accommodation: Golden Tulip Hotel (high-standard with pool and A/C), Kumasi 

Day 6: December 29, 2021 After starting our journey to Cape Coast, you will visit the Assin Manso Slave River. This river is where captured slaves from the Northern part of Ghana had their last bath before being transported to the Americas. After learning about this historic site you will visit one of the highlights of our tours, the home village of our founder Enock, a typical Ghanaian village close to Cape Coast. Be welcomed by the chief of the village during an official greeting ceremony, where you will hand over traditional gifts which we arranged in advance. Listen to the stories of the elders and learn about the history and traditions of the village and watch a typical cultural performance by the women and children of the village. Get an introduction to local cuisine by the family and enjoy a typical Ghanaian lunch together. You will be guided to the cocoa plantation, which is the main source of income for the village population. Day 7: December 30, 2021 Start your day with taking part in a head wrapping workshop in a local community of cape coast. Learn about how wraps identify a woman ́s religion, social status and celebrations. Continue to Cape Coast Castle, which was used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas, especially the Caribbean. Start an emotional journey during which you will visit the dungeons and the door of no return. Receive a unique naming ceremony and get your own Ghanaian name. Day 8: December 31, 2021 In the morning we stop at Elmina and watch the busy fishing harbour. Continue to the Kakum National Park, which is made up of mostly undisturbed virgin rainforest and is one of the famous national parks in Ghana. Enjoy the view from the Canopy Walkway over 7 bridges & tree tops at 40m height. In the afternoon we return to Accra. Celebrate a New Year ́s Eve with a dinner party! Day 9: January 1, 2022 In the morning you can relax at your hotel. In the afternoon we have time for some last minute shopping in Accra. Loaded with lots of unforgettable memories of your trip we continue to the airport to get your evening flight back home.

Need to Know Information:

Proof of US Citizenship, Passport, Visa & Minor Children Requirements: Minors traveling with either one parent or no parents must have a certified letter of permission from the parent or parents who is/are not traveling. This letter must be presented at airport check-in. All international tours require a current passport. Entrance to most countries requires your passport to be valid for 6 months after your return date. Your passport number must be recorded by a Delta Omega Travel agent when making your reservation. Names on the airline tickets must appear as shown on passport. Photocopies are not acceptable forms of identification. Non US citizens are responsible to fulfill appropriate entry requirements of the destination country. Contact the local Consulate for information.

Travel Insurance: We strongly suggest purchasing a travel insurance plan. Be sure to check with your health insurance provider as many US plans may not cover you outside of the country. Insurance costs are based on the total tour cost, including air taxes and charges listed under "Not Included." These charges are added to the final billing. Approximate amounts can be given at the time of reservation in order to purchase the appropriate amount of insurance.

FAQs

Is this an escorted tour? Yes. We will travel with a tour conductor once we reach the travel destination. While on the tour, we will travel by air conditioned vehicle to sites stated in the itinerary. We will be given a schedule and suggested times to meet the group to start each day.

What is the currency at our destination? The currency in Ghana is the Ghanaian cedi (GHC). You can exchange your money for their currency upon arrival at the airport. There is a limit of 1,000 Ghanaian Cedi-GHS local currency which can be legally exported out of the country. Foreign currency equalling 5000USD can also be exported from the country. When using an ATM machine, please be advised that the ATM machines dispense money in GHANIAN CEDI - NOT US DOLLARS. Visa is the most widely accepted credit card and can be used at major hotels and restaurants. Please Note: We suggest you call your bank and/or credit card company before you leave, to let them know you will be out of the country and using your ATM card or credit card.

Who handles our visas for the trip? You will need to obtain a visa to enter Ghana before leaving the United States. You should visit the Ghanian Embassy at: https://ghanaembassydc.org/visa/ to obtain your visa.

Am I required to get immunizations to travel to Ghana? You will need to provide proof of the Yellow Fever vaccine as well as the malaria vaccine. Currently, there is no mandate for a Covid-19 vaccine. However, you will be required to get tested with a viral test 1–3 days before your trip and keep a copy of your results with you during travel.

What is the Time Zone? In December, they are five hours ahead of EST.

What is the climate like? The climate is hot and humid year-round. Daily high temperatures are around 89°F, rarely falling below 87°F or exceeding 91°F. Daily low temperatures are around 78°F, rarely falling below 75°F or exceeding 79°F. The highest daily average low temperature is 78°F on December 8.

Can I arrive early or extend my stay? Yes, you are welcome to extend your stay. However, the price will be greater than this trip's package.
