What is your favorite thing about Red Cloud?
There are so many great things to do in RC! Things to see while in RC are the Starke Round Barn, the Willa Cather sites, and the Republican River to name just a few. There are also amazing shops, Hometown Market, and quaint eating & drinking establishments.
What are some of your favorite businesses to shop at in Red Cloud? Why?
I shop most all of them; I rarely shop elsewhere. I would have to say where I work, Gary Thompson Agency for providing the best insurance around! Hometown Market for all their great food selections. Fat Fox for their famous pizza’s and BBQ. On the Brix for their on-tap beers, seasonal drinks and atmosphere.
Red Cloud has some of the best entertainment, historical sites, food and drink. It’s also a great place to raise your family with the great school system and day care facility. There are also several churches to choose from. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and wants to see our community succeed!
If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?
I would love to have 2 or 3 of myself! It would be great for me to get everything completed on my list in a day and if I had multiples of myself, I could accomplish everything I want to get done!
Do you have any hobbies or interests you’d like to share?
In the summer when it’s nice I like to camp, boat and hang out with family and friends around the campfire at the lake, spending time and riding horses, bikes and playing in the river or creek on our farm with my daughters. I also like going to music concerts and antique car shows with my husband.
Do you have any pets?
An English Red Lab named Ginger; a Palomino gelding named River; a Sorrel gelding named Harlan; a Red Angus Bull named Duke; several Red Angus cows: #333, #123, #539, and #322 (Blacky) are my favorite cows that you can hand feed and pet. We also have several farm cats: Miss Kitty, Princess, Mr. Fluff, and Apollo.
What would your high school teachers or guidance counselor say about you if we asked?
I hope they would say “Stacy was an honor student and was in everything that the school had to offer, and she is still showing that she has that same potential to do anything and everything with confidence!”
What are you most proud of?
My family first and foremost! I am also proud of my years of service in the United States Air Force and serving as a Financial Officer in the Cowles American Legion.
Do you have a mantra or mission statement you live by?
I have two that I try hard to live by and I have both statements hanging in my office: "Forget the day’s troubles, remember the day’s blessings" & "Don’t wait for things to get easier, simpler, better. Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now. Otherwise you’ll run out of time."
What historical figure or celebrity would you most like to have dinner with? Why?
Salvador Dali. I have always been intrigued by his art and always wondered what he was thinking when he created his works of art. Plus, I have always loved art and being creative, thanks to George Mohlman my high school art teacher. Art Design and Layout was also my major in college.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to relocate to rural Nebraska?
There is so much to offer in our thriving community. Red Cloud has some of the best entertainment, historical sites, food and drink. It’s also a great place to raise your family with the great school system and day care facility. There are also several churches to choose from. Everyone is so friendly and helpful and wants to see our community succeed.
I’m a member of the Cowles Legion as their Financial Officer and we put on a Republican River tank float every year. This year the tank float is on Saturday July 20th and we are going to start in a different location, the Old Riverton Bridge and end at the Inavale Bridge. We will serve a free lunch for the floaters and have t-shirts or tank tops available for sale.
What is your favorite song and/or recording artist?
I have 2 artists/songs: "Zombie," by The Cranberries & "Hand in My Pocket," by Alanis Morissette I used to sing both songs in my husband’s band, Lester Junction and they always seemed to bring the crowd to the dance floor.
What is your favorite movie and/or TV show?
I’m torn to pick just one so I would have to say the movies that I can watch over and over again such as Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and Seven. There is action, suspense, some romance and then a twist at the end of each of them. Plus quite a few great actors. A TV show that I used to watch and sometime still catch re-runs of is Friends. This started in 94 when I was stationed in Florida and there were a group of us that would go to a friend’s house off base and hang out and watch this every Thursday night. So, I would say it brings back many good memories hanging out with friends watching Friends.
What is your dream vacation?
Anywhere warm with the sound of the ocean lapping on the beach and someone to wait on me hand and foot!
What’s your favorite place to visit in Nebraska?
In the summer: Harlan Co. Lake to enjoy the water. In the winter: Lincoln and/or Omaha for music concerts.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life? Explain why.
I would have to say, my family who influenced me in joining the military. The military expanded my views on life and people. It also gave me a great respect for everything the military does to make our country free. Military also runs in my family, from my Grandpa Raymond and Grandma Doris Holmberg in the Army during WWII, to my Dad, Larry Holmberg in the Army during Vietnam, and myself. It has been an amazing honor to serve my country.
What do you love about living on your farm?
We are so lucky to have a farmstead that has the The Starke Round Barn historical site on it. We also, have a vast countryside to ride our horses and to have cattle graze on with the Elm Creek and the Republican River running through our property.
Can you tell us a little bit about the Stock Tank Float?
I’m a member of the Cowles Legion as their Financial Officer and we put on a Republican River tank float every year. This year the tank float is on Saturday July 20th and we are going to start in a different location, the Old Riverton Bridge and end at the Inavale Bridge. We will serve a free lunch for the floaters and have t-shirts or tank tops available for sale.
You're also helping build a Veterans Memorial Wall. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
The Legion is raising funds to erect a Veteran’s Memorial Wall on HWY 281, south of the Red Cloud High School, west of the South-Central State Bank. We had a Pancake Feed put on by the Lyons and we had a Hamburger Bash at the High School before the Spring Music Concert, both were a big success. Jim Johnson with Summit Masonry is going to complete the wall and the brick is coming from Endicott Clay Co from Endicott NE. If anyone is interested in purchasing a brick for a Veteran, we are accepting any Veteran (living or fallen) or still Active Duty Member. It is $100 for a brick, there will be 2 lines with 16 characters per line. We will need a Name, Branch, Years of Service and if they served in a War. We will also have several blank bricks so we can continue to add Veterans or Active Duty Members to the Memorial Wall. The plan is to get this completed by 2020 Memorial Day to Honor every Veteran that has served or Active Duty Member that is serving in our great Nation. If you have a name you want to purchase a brick for or if you have more questions, please contact me.
