A Wrinkle in Time - Mar. 9

March 9 brings us an adaptation of the classic novel “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L’engle. The first trailer for the film dropped back in July at D23 -- Disney’s version of Comic Con. Director, Ava DuVernay (“Selma”), changed some things in the book that seem to make the story more modern -- such as Meg being African-American rather than white. With a star studded cast including Oprah Winfrey and Chris Pine, the film is sure to break all kinds of boundaries that are relevant to today.

Tomb Raider - Mar. 16

March seems to be a month of strong females. “Tomb Raider” stars Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”), and it should be looked forward to by all women and gamers. The film is based on the popular video game series that focuses on Lara Croft, a somewhat modern archaeologist, and her action packed adventures. While there are only slight differences, some fans of the game are in uproar. However, they should come to terms with it and just enjoy the film when it hits theatres in late March.

Love, Simon - Mar. 16

“Love, Simon” focuses on Simon Spier, a closeted boy who doesn’t want to come out in fear of ruining all the things he loves about his life. The film explores what it’s like to be closeted, the anxiety coming out can cause, and the effects it may have on the rest of one person's life. When Simon starts emailing someone in his class, he falls head-over-heels for them -- only, he doesn’t know who they are. He navigates the situation a little clumsily, a little green, but most of all, a little gay.

Pacific Rim: Uprising - Mar. 23

After a long five year wait, the sequel everyone asked for is finally coming to theatres. “Pacific Rim: Uprising” takes place 10 years after the 2013 film. Unfortunately, things look the same or unfortunately even worse than before. Teenagers are now in control of the jaegers, which allows the film to be more relatable to younger ages. The film stars John Boyega (“Star War: The Force Awakens”) and Scott Eastwood -- his first major role. While the film has been a long time coming, it’s sure to scratch the itch audiences have been looking for.

Isle of Dogs - Mar. 23

Wes Anderson’s newest film, “Isle of Dogs” looks to be just as good as his previous films (“Grand Budapest Hotel). The film takes place in, Japan which is currently experiencing a dog issue -- canine flu. In order to fix the issue, they send all dogs to their garbage island and leave them there to fend for themselves. However, one kid disagrees and goes to save his dog and receives help from a pack already situated on the island. With a huge cast of celebrities, the film is sure to be one of Anderson’s best.

Ready Player One - Mar. 29

Most of Steven Spielberg's recent films have been historical dramas, but “Ready Player One” is here to change all of that. The novel itself written by Ernest Cline, includes many throwbacks to ‘80s culture and the future populations reliance on a virtual reality game. While the film is to include all the ‘80s references one person could imagine, Spielberg has said he won’t put any of his own films in the adaptation. While most of the cast is pretty unknown, they’re sure to gain some popularity by the time the film is over.
