7 Life Changing Inventions english 15 2017

In 1430 Johannes Gutenberg took credit for creating the first printing press.

He had the idea of creating metal molds of words in order to piece together sentences. Previous models were made out wood and more complicated.

His invention made books a lot more affordable to the middle class. Before his invention only universities, monasteries, and very wealthy families.

The microchip was invented in 1959 by Jack Kilby and Robert Noyce.

A microchip is manufactured from a semiconducting material such as silicon or germanium. Microchips are usually used for the logic component of a computer,(the brains or the computer) known as the microprocessor, or for the computer memory, also known as RAM.

Microchips are important to todays society because without them we would not have computers, smart phones, GPS, and TV's almost all electronic devices use them.

"A house is not a home unless it contains food and fire for the mind as well as the body" -Benjamin Franklin
  • Thomas Edison invented the first practical light bulb in 1879
  • The light bulb consists of a metallic filament surrounded by a thin layer of glass. It provides lights much more efficiently than any other light source that's readily available. Easy to set up and use. Lasts a very long time.
  • Not only does it make our lives better, but it makes our lives possible.

the very 1st mobile phone got it's start in WW2 when

The mobile phone has come a long way to what it has become in today's world. Devices are able to store much more data for pictures, videos, or apps. They have gotten substantially lighter and more intelligent. Some come with the ability to be used as a GPS to navigate routes for travelling. Mobile phones are making it easier and more fun to connect to new people in different ways.

The Mobile phone had to be one of the greatest inventions of all time. Almost everybody in the US has one. It's like having a mini computer in your pocket.

The wheel dates back to around 3500 B.C. found in Mesopotamia during archaeological excavations. Revolutionized early human transportation.

The wheel must be connected to a wheel-axle and be perfectly fitted, or the wheel could not turn. The wheel was invented for multiple purposes. (irrigation, milling, pottery making)

One of the greatest achievements of human society, the wheel is developed at a very fast rate, and can sometimes be forgotten in today's age.

  • Since electricity is a natural force that exists in our world, it didn't have to be invented. It did, however, have to be discovered and understood. Most people give credit to Benjamin Franklin for discovering electricity.
  • The movement of electric charge is known as an electric current, the intensity of which is usually measured in amperes. Current can consist of any moving charged particles; most commonly these are electrons, but any charge in motion constitutes a current. Electric current can flow through some things, electrical conductors, but will not flow through an electrical insulator.
  • Electricity is important to today's society because it runs everything we do. Even transportation is becoming electric, without electricity the world would be set back hundreds of years

Which invention/discovery do you think is the most useful.
