What is Vermicompost?
Vermicompost is commonly known as the “black gold” of agriculture due to its unparalleled value as a soil additive. Studies suggest that vermicompost increases crop yield and nutrient uptake; enhances soil structure; reduces nutrient loss; builds plant resilience against certain pests, infectious diseases and droughts; and supports microbial populations in the soil.
What's the difference between composting and vermicomposting?
Composting relies on biological heat: As organic matter decomposes, it expels an extraordinary amount of heat which breaks down large compounds. Vermicomposting, however, works with live organisms to decompose biodegradable material. Worms digest biodegradable material and produce "castings" which are teeming with microbial populations and are rich in minerals and nutrients.
