Dear University community,

I trust all had a safe and celebratory July 4th! We’re gearing up for the start of our Fall semester and welcoming new and returning students daily as they plan their return to campus this Fall.

  • Uconnect has relaunched and the new icon-driven interface offers an easy navigation experience. Kudos to our OIT Team for their “reloading” of Uconnect.
  • Speaking of helping students, how about FREE books this Fall? Have you heard about our exciting pilot program, TAMIU Books IncludED? It launches this Fall. See more below.
  • COVID-19 Vaccinations are now available on campus every Wednesday and Thursday through our partnership with the National Guard. They are free of charge and open to the University and public. Additional vaccination dates and more on free COVID-19 Testing located here.
  • Our Graduate School has added new online programs and MBA concentrations. You’ll want all the details.
  • Congratulations to Dr. Jared Dmello, TAMIU assistant professor of Criminal Justice, who recently received a national award for innovation in teaching.
  • If you’re a graduate student, you’ll want to check out services available from the Graduate School’s Advanced Research and Curriculum Program (ARC). Those thesis and dissertation dilemmas can be easily addressed with ARC services.
  • Don’t forget…Applications for the next funding cycle for CRRSAA Grants for students enrolled during Sub-Term II, Summer Session II, and Summer Session III open the week of July 12. Here’s more.
  • TAMIU’s Continuing Ed is offering “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt,” an interactive online course that has helped people from Fortune 500 companies to smaller size businesses learn how to provide premium quality products and services. To register and find out more, visit here.
  • Employees: Open Enrollment is underway through July 31 for all Benefits Eligible Employees and Retirees. You can review, and revise if necessary, insurance and beneficiary information. Log into Single Sign On, click on Workday, and completing the Open Enrollment item in your Workday Inbox.
  • Registration for Summer and Fall continues. Fall here will be a full and vibrant, on-campus experience. We can’t wait to welcome you back. Stay tuned this week for some exciting news about a new program that might make your semester especially memorable!

TAMIU Pilots Free Books For All Students This Fall

This Fall at TAMIU, degree-seeking students will be part of a pilot program providing all TAMIU required textbooks and course materials free of charge. TAMIU Books IncludED delivers course materials to students in multiple formats, including E-book (digital), open educational resources, and print. Students who opt not to receive free digital textbook and course materials will be able to purchase physical materials.

TAMIU Criminal Justice, Business Degree Programs Receive National Rankings Among Top 10 Best Affordable Programs

TAMIU has received three, Top 10 rankings from online source, University HQ, adding to its extensive list of national ranking placements.

TAMIU Faculty Member Dmello Receives Academy of Criminal Justice Award for Innovation in Teaching

A project led by Dr. Jared Dmello, TAMIU assistant professor of Criminal Justice, recently received a national award for innovation in teaching from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences.

"I was so humbled and honored to receive this award from ACJS. My pedagogical approach has always centered on providing active learning experiences where students are empowered to take their education into their own hands. I also strive to infuse technology into my courses, since our students are living in a hyper-connected world."

Graduate Students Get Focused Writing Help with ARC at TAMIU

TAMIU graduate students are receiving the assistance they need to advance their writing skills through TAMIU ARC. Services offered through ARC include graduate tutoring sessions, thesis and dissertation support sessions, online assistance, writing and professional workshops, writing review services and more.

"Graduate study often means late nights, or early mornings as students try to maintain their life responsibilities while moving forward with their studies. That’s why at TAMIU we’ve dedicated funding and resources to provide help targeted at graduate student success, such as personnel to support graduate-level writing both within courses and for theses. This level of support can be an absolute help for all graduate students.”
