2. Make fractions.
Fractions show equal parts of a whole.
You can make a fraction. Lets make one-half. First, find paper. Second, fold the paper. You need two equal parts. Finally, shade (color) one part. The shaded part shows one-half.
Activity: Draw one-fourth.
Can you make one-fourth? One-fourth has four equal parts. Try to draw one-fourth. Draw four equal parts below. How many ways can you do it?
3. Show a fraction with numbers.
Each part of a fraction has the same size.
A fraction names part of a whole. A fraction has two numbers. One number is on the top. One number is on the bottom. The bottom number shows all the pieces. The top number shows only the shaded pieces.
