What is all the fuss over the World Cup??

The World Cup was established in 1930 after FIFA’s (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) President realized the success of the Olympic Football Tournament

Uruguay was chosen to host the first World Cup. This was because they offered to pay all the teams expenses.

Uruguay also offered to take on the deficit and divide profit where it was made.

The tournament proved to be a sport success as well as a financial success.

What are the differences beween The World Cup & The Olympics?

  • The World Cup has more countries involved
  • Any aged player can participate in The World Cup vs. Olympic teams may only have up to 3 players above the age of 23 years old
  • Unlike their male counterparts, the female Olympic teams do not have the age restriction
  • The Olympics are typically played 2 years after The World Cup
