The idea of a ‘hot take’ is a piece of commentary based on opinionated ideas. With 2020 being a crazy year, here's something fun to ponder about. Here are some hot takes from LZHS's students.
Hot take: Sleeping with socks on should be a routine
For sophomore Sadie Luzbetak, sleeping with socks on is a must.
“I enjoy wearing socks when I’m sleeping. My feet get cold and when they’re cold, I put socks on and it just makes sense to me. There’s no reason for me not to,” Luzbetak said. “I’m confused [and] I don’t know how people think that that’s gross. You wear socks all day. There’s no difference in wearing them to bed in my head. I don’t know why other people don’t like it. I really don’t.”
Hot take: Mankind originated from the byproduct of aliens genetically engineering monkeys
Reese Funk, senior, says he believes “humans are actually the byproduct of aliens genetically engineering monkeys.”
After listening to a podcast a few years ago and diving into the subject, Funk says he gathered information to back up his thoughts.
“If you look at a time period frame of human evolution human[...] subspecies for millions and millions of years have been evolving; but, at the same rate of every other animal. But then, all of a sudden around 2.6 million years ago they just kind of started evolving at rates that excelled any other animal,” Funk said. “And I think the only thing that could be responsible for that is probably aliens.”
Hot take: Cheese is gross
The average American consumes about 37 pounds of cheese but for Emma Wilkerson, junior, cheese is the number one food to avoid.
“I don’t like cheese with the exception of Parmesan. I don’t really like the texture and I don’t like the taste that it leaves in your mouth,” Wilkerson said. I take cheese off my pizza [and] I pretty much try to avoid cheese. People are surprised [because] they didn’t realize that there was anyone that didn’t like cheese.”
Hot take: Veggies and fruits are a no go on pizza
Matthew Nerenberg, freshman, despises the idea of veggies and fruits on his pizza.
“Meat belongs on pizza, veggies and fruits do not. Veggies and fruits are usually supposed to be cold[...]. Then you put it on pizza, which is hot. Doesn’t make sense. They don’t mix, you don't have hot and cold, they literally don’t fit.”
